Melai Cantiveros and Jason Francisco have officially tied the knot today, December 9.
A wedding ceremony was held at the Holy Cross Parish in the bride’s hometown in General Santos City this afternoon.
Family members of the bride and groom, plus several showbiz friends were invited to witness the union.
World champion boxer and Saranggani Congressman Manny Pacquiao attended the wedding as one of the principal sponsors.
He came with his mother and fellow principal sponsor Dionisia Pacquiao, who has been a subject of the comedienne bride’s comic impressions on TV.
Manny’s wife, Sarangani Vice Governor Jinkee Pacquiao, is also a sponsor. PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) has yet to confirm if she made it to the wedding.
Other celebrity principal sponsors listed in the wedding invitation are Kris Aquino, Boy Abunda, ABS-CBN executive Deo Endrinal, Star Magic’s Mariole Alberto, and celebrity entrepreneurs Ben Chan, Vicki Belo, and Joel Cruz.
The couple’s former housemates in Pinoy Big Brother: Double Up and cast mates from Banana Split were also in attendance.
Celebrity pals Paul Jake Castillo and Ryan Bang were the best men, while Melason fans club leaders Audrey Meghan Gendrala and Grace Sapinoso were the maids of honor.
Melai and Jason wore a custom gown and suit by designer-to-the-stars Nat Manilag.
A dinner reception followed right after at the Pandan Grand Ballroom of the Green Leaf Hotel in San Miguel Street, General Santos City.
FROM REEL TO REAL. In 2010, the entire country witnessed the blossoming of Melai and Jason’s relationship inside the PBB house.
Jason, the “bad boy” from Mindoro, unexpectedly fell in love with Melai, the quirky girl from General Santos City.
It gave birth to the Melason craze, which hit Pinoys in the Philippines and abroad.
After the reality show ended—with Jason landing third place and Melai emerging as victor—the two pursued their relationship, while starting out a career in showbiz as comedians.
Throughout the first year of their relationship, rumors of infidelity and insecurity on the part of Jason plagued the couple.
They decided to call it quits in early 2012, following an unconfirmed accusation of a third party.
Earlier this year though, Jason became vocal and persistent about getting Melai back.
By August, the couple had already patched things up, and in an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) Jason said he is ready and willing to marry Melai and have a child with her.
It was merely a promise back then, but little did the public know that the couple was in fact headed towards that direction sooner than imagined.
In October, after weeks of speculating about a pregnancy, Melai finally confirmed that she is carrying Jason’s child.
The announcement of a December wedding came soon after, and today, the Melason union has been solidified by the sanctity of marriage.
The couple is expecting the arrival of their first child in March.
