Lady spiker Gretchen Ho has turned her penchant to share inspirational quotes with the people in social media into a business venture called The Inspired Project.
In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of entertainment media, the Ateneo Lady Blue Eagle volleyball athlete said she never imagined that what she loves doing in social media would be a business project.
Gretchen recalled, "Noong college days, since athelete ako, every time I train, I would listen to music and I would try to motivate myself with different inspirational quotes."
This gave her the idea to share her source of inspiration to her friends and followers in social media.
As she told it, "Minsan gumagawa ako on my own and I would post them on my Twitter just to keep a record of those posts.
"I was surprised that people would retweet it, people would say, ‘Thank you. You inspired me. I needed this today.’"
What Gretchen didn’t expect to happen was that the interest of her followers would actually encourage her to put the quotes in another medium.
The TV host-athlete told PEP, "Sabi ko, sayang naman ‘yong mga naiisip kong ideas.
"Why not put turn them into a brand that will actually inspire people.
"Hindi ko naman naisip ito kaagad-agad.
"It took me a long time to think about it."
MORE THAN JUST A BRAND. Apart from feedback from her friends and followers, Gretchen also drew inspiration to put up a business from a video of Holestee Manifesto that she saw on You Tube.
Holestee Manifesto is a foreign brand that sells various merchandise with motivational quotes printed on them.
Gretchen further described it, "If you take a look at the video, you see different people living their passions.
"Along with those scenes, you see different lines that inspire them."
Because of this, said Gretchen, "Na-inspire ako na gumawa ng something like that and translate it into a brand."
The Inspired Project merchandise includes ID straps, cellular phone cases, and T-shirts with Gretchen’s motivational quotes printed on them.
Gretchen was quick to explain that she does not want to oversell her brand.
The ABS-CBN Sports and Action TV host said, "The Inspired Project, it’s not just about selling inspirational merchandise.
"My vision for the brand goes beyond selling."
In the future, Gretchen said, "We want to have events that would inspire a lot of people.
"We would like to conduct inspirational talks, we also want to help different causes.
"We want to have an advocacy arm for the brand.
"We also want to partner with schools and encourage people to live their dreams."
As she and her group push their brand, Gretchen assured that they will also continue to empower people.
"The main focus of the brand is to encourage people to pursue their dreams.
"Uso ngayon ang bashing sa social media.
"We want to change that culture.
"We want to make it into a more empowering one, where people help each other to become successful."
