Last Thursday, March 6, marked the 5th year of Garage magazine’s annual list of Young Talents.
Fashion-savvy individuals in their “Aloha Cool” outfits flocked the launch party held at the Skye Lounge in Bonifacio Global City in Makati City.
Apart from keeping its readers updated on the latest trends in men’s wear and grooming, Garage magazine is also known for featuring the emerging young talents in different creative fields. The celebrities on the magazine's previous list included Xian Lim, Benjamin Alves, and Saab Magalona.
This year, the magazine presented their list of young individuals who are most likely to succeed in their chosen fields in the coming years.
The magazine’s editor-in-chief, Rey Ilagan, told PEP: “It doesn’t need to be in entertainment.
“It’s all across the border.
"We have bloggers, we have theater actors, we have writers, we have illustrators, artists.
“It’s all different bunch of people altogether in just one fantastic feature in the magazine.
“We had Enchong Dee and Gerald Anderson on the cover before and from then on, we just wanted to have a list of up-and-coming people, the young people with really good talent.”
Rey and his team wanted the list to be diverse and to include names from different fields in the creative industry.
As for their criteria, Rey said that his team keep their eyes and ears open, their radars at a ready for any individual who will turn on all the signals.
“We just generally keep an open eye,” he said.
He added, “Mostly, people in the industry are telling us who are up-and-coming as well.”
The magazine's editorial team decided to swing the spotlight on the young and talented individuals who they think would make a great impact in the creative industry.
Garage magazine's editor-in-chief said, “We try to chose one person from one industry.
“We try not to repeat the same person from that industry.”
He added, “They should be under 25.”
This year’s Young Talents list includes host-athlete Andre Paras; make-up artist Nikki Duque; theater actor Rafa Siguion-Reyna; artist Mano Gonzales; model LA Aguinaldo; muse Janna Tee; designer Lorenz Namalata, and writer Margarita Buenaventura.
