Add Carla Abellana to the growing list of celebrity entrepreneurs because she just opened a new nail salon business in Quezon City.

Together with her partners—mom Rea Reyes and older sister Erica—the Kapuso actress led the grand opening of The Nail Box in Scout Gandia, on March 12.

BISYO TURNED NEGOSYO. Fans and friends of Carla would not be surprised that she entered this kind of business.

"Super ano namin siya, bisyo namin talaga," she said in an interview with (Philippine Entertainment Portal) about her fondness for manicure and pedicure services.

"My sister and I, ever since we were in high school, talagang hilig na namin talagang magpa-manicure and pedicure. And then, it's been my mom's dream na rin to open her own business.

"So, since we love having our nails done, naisip namin, siyempre, the best business is whatever your bisyo is, di ba, something you love. So, ito, nagtayo kami ng nail spa."

SERVICES. Carla describes The Nail Box as "your friendly neighborhood nail spa."

Asked if there are any special services here that other nail salons don't offer, she says: "There's nothing really different to it naman, kasi we took such a small space, kasi nga it's only our first.

"And, for me, parang it's risky na rin, in a way, to introduce something new.

"I guess kasi based on our experience, based on what we love, based on what we... kumbaga what we feel is the best kind of service, kasi siyempre we've tried a lot of other nail spas already, so iyong basics lang muna."

However, she takes pride in their packaged services called the spa pediure and spa manicure, priced at P350 and P450 respectively.

"[Our bestseller] has to be the spa pedicure and the spa manicure, of course, kasi it's the complete package already.

"You get your usual scrub, you get your manicure and pedicure with your massage and all, and polish, siyempre, so, it's a complete package na.

"Kaysa naman kukuha ka pa ng separate services, di ba, e, di go for the complete package na for a lower price pa."

She adds as a money-saving tip: "You know, you're already at the nail spa, so if you have enough time, go for the full package already because it's cheaper na lalabas.

"But, of course, there's also the express manicure naman din para doon sa mga on-the-go."

BECOMING AN ENTREPRENEUR. Armed with just her passion for beautiful nails, Carla says she enjoyed the process of putting everything together.

"The Nail Box is a new brand, so we really had the name registered and all. We thought of the name ourselves," she says.

"Actually, si Mommy talaga iyong ano, e, kasi most owners din they would do their research, they travel pa, and attend conventions.

"We haven't done that yet, kumbaga we're just starting, but that's our plan, that's one of our short term goals.

"Nauna iyong pag-open namin kasi nga excited sobra iyong mommy ko!" she adds.

However, Carla remains an endorser of a popular chain of nail spas.

"I'm also an endorser of Posh Nails, but it's not naman in any way conflicting because the owner is aware naman that we opened our personal nail spa.

"At saka there's no way naman that we're competing against each other. High school pa lang I've been a Posh girl na and the owner, si Cat Ilacad, is very supportive naman. She's glad na at least, in a way, she was able to influence me also.

"I've been planning to franchise Posh Nails also. Mahirap lang talaga kasi it's a known brand already, and ang hirap maghanap ng space talaga, so that's what we've been having problems about for the past couple of years.

"But, hopefully, matuloy pa rin naman, so kahit na we have our own nail spa, we get to franchise pa rin Posh Nails."

Even with this new business at hand, Carla promises fans that she won't be cooling off from her TV or film work.

"It's going to be Mommy and my sister who will manage the salon full time," she says.

She's currently working on a movie called Let's Take A Chance with her former My Husband's Lover co-star Tom Rodriguez.
