Gerald Anderson may bring smiles on the faces of the children he has been helping year after year on his birthday, but he's the one grinning ear to ear.
It happened again when he took them to the Avilon Zoo in Rodriguez, Rizal, last Saturday, March 22, for his post-birthday celebration.
Ever since he joined showbiz, Gerald Anderson has been celebrating his birthday with the children.
The first charity he supported was the Cancer Warrior Foundation while quartered at the Pinoy Big Brother house.
When he started doing the defunct teleserye Budoy, Gerald added the kids of Cottolengo Filipino on the list of his invited guests.
He did his immersion at the Cottolengo Filipino in preparation for the role of the mentally challenged Budoy.
In the previous years, Gerald would throw a simple children’s party for the underprivileged children.
This year, however, the Dyesebel actor made it more special by taking the children of his choice charities to the zoo.
“Every year namin itong ginagawa, pero ito ‘yong first time na nakapag-zoo kami.
“I think, ito ‘yong pinakamasaya kasi kahit matatanda nag-enjoy sila.
“Nakakatuwa kasi nae-experience ko ‘to ‘tapos kasama pa sila.
“I’m sure karamihan sa kanila first time din nakapunta sa zoo.
“It’s a wonderful day,” said Gerald in an interview during a break from the tour.
STRESS-RELIEVER. Gerald said he will continue his birthday tradition of making the less fortunate children happy for as long as he can.
He said it does not only make the kids smile but it also helps him.
“Lagi naman, e, kapag kayang isingit, isisingit talaga. It’s a must kapag birthday ko,” he said.
“Parang kapag birthday ko kailangan talaga, parang it’s part of the celebration.
“Actually, nakakawala ng pagod ito, e.
“It works on both sides. Nag-e-enjoy siya, nag-e-enjoy kami, nag-e-enjoy ako.”
He added, “Kung anuman ang status mo, ito ‘yong nakakawala ng stress, e.
“For someone who’s always working, who’s always busy, ito ‘yong stress-reliever.
“Ayaw kong sabihing giving back kasi mas marami akong nakukuha sa kanila.”
Before going home, Gerald handed out his gift to the kids, which is a backpack full of special goodies.
“Sobrang suwerte ko na ako ang nagdala sa kanila dito.
“Sobra silang masaya, sobra silang nag-enjoy kahit nakakapagod,” he ended.
