Chris Tiu reminds athletes who try other activities outside their sport: “At the end of the day, it’s being able to balance all these things, to make sure that you are still able to perform at a certain level that you believe is equated to excellence for you.”

Ayon kay Chris, “Well, of course, it’s no surprise that basketball players would be invited by the different networks to enter showbiz because of the popularity of UAAP [University Athletic Association of the Philippines] and NCAA [National Collegiate Athletic Association].

"Their following has been unbelievable over the years,” saad ni Chris sa PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) noong April 24, Huwebes, sa Treston International College, The Fort, kung saan ginanap ang Master Game Face Challenge.

Pahayag pa niya, “Basketball, I still believe, is the number one sport in the country and because of the fans and because of that fan base, they [players] become instant celebrities."

“They are also very marketable in both ends,” ani Chris na miyembro ng Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters Team ng Philippine Basketball Association o PBA.

“I guess what’s important is that the players are able to separate their commitments,” ito ang sagot nito nang matanong kung paano mapagsasabay ng isang atleta ang kanyang sport at pagpasok sa showbiz.

COMPROMISED.

“Somehow, some way, there will be, there might be compromises.

"Minsan, sa sobrang daming commitments, napapagod and you’re not able to perform at your peak, like during basketball games or trainings.

"And in the same way na baka sa school hindi ka nakakapagaral nang mabuti.

“Nasa-sacrifice, nako-comprise ang iyong grades.

“What’s important is you are able to prioritize kung ano ang pinakamahalaga sa yo, sa mga ginagawa mo—kung showbiz ba, pag-aaral ba, basketball ba, pamilya ba.

“At the end of the day, it’s just being able to balance all these things, to make sure that you are still able to perform at a certain level that you believe is equated to excellence for you."

Paalala pa ni Chris: “If it’s already starting to affect or compromise a certain field, then it’s the responsibility of that athlete to determine which one he should let go and which one he should pursue.

“At the end of the day, ibat-iba sa bawat tao.

“Case to case nga, di maiiwasan na may mako-compromise talaga.

“It’s how you will deal with it, handle it and how you are gonna prioritize your different commitments.”

SIMULTANEOUS COMMITMENTS.

Pahayag niya, “Matagal na rin kasi ako sa basketball… since I was in grade school, nagba-basketball na ako.

"Showbiz naman, I don’t even call it showbiz kasi hindi naman ako full-fledged showbiz artista.

“My programs are once a week and I tape several episodes in one taping day.

“And that taping day, I can do that after my [basketball] practice.

"So I never miss a basketball practice in the same way I never miss taping for basketball practices.

“Sa business, naman sa mga negosyo ko, I’m involved up to a certain extent.

"I have a team that I work with closely and whom I can instruct to handle day-to-day operations.

"So at least I can use my time for these other things I’m also engaged in.

“Same thing with local government, sa barangay.
