Jessy Mendiola’s second official visit as South Korea tourism ambassador to the Philippines took place from May 17 to 21.
Nine days later—May 30—at the second anniversary event of Korea Tourism Organization, Jessy told the press, “Sabi kasi nila gusto nilang ma-experience ko yung iba-ibang seasons sa Korea.
“Ngayon, pumunta kami summer. Baka end of the year, pag winter, [babalik ako dun].”
Her first official visit was in Seoul in November 2013.
This year, “We’ve been to Jeju Island. It’s one hour away from Seoul. You have to take an airplane or by ferry. Kami, we took a plane.”
Jeju Island, according to http://world.new7wonders.com, is a volcanic island…the largest island and smallest province in Korea.”
Jessy described, “…ano siya, medyo isolated siya. Pero modern pa rin yung ibang parts.
“Kumbaga kung gusto niyong mag-honeymoon or mag-retreat or family vacation, maganda talaga magpunta sa Jeju.
“Maraming museums, maraming places na puwedeng puntahan.”
Her itinerary included Ice Museum, yacht tour, Daheeyeon Garden, Cheonjiyeon Waterfalls, Sungsan Sunrise Peak, and Alive Museum.
The latter was her favorite.
Sounding so excited, Jessy remarked, “Yung may 3D illusions ng pictures ‘tapos puwede kang mag-pose kasama ng pictures. Nakakatuwa lang. Imagine, nagawa nila yun.”
PLEASANT SURPRISE. Nope, she didn’t leave her heart in the island.
Smiling, she said, “Naghahanap ako sa Jeju! Hahaha. Pero nakakatuwa kasi pag pumupunta ka ng Korea, masaya lang kapag nandun ka.
“Kahit two na in the morning or lampas na ng midnight, puwede kang maglakad-lakad lang.
“So alam niyo na lagi akong lumalabas dun, bumibili ng kung anu-ano kasi open stores nila until 3 a.m.”
But Jessy had a “happy heart” during her four-day stay there.
One of the probable reasons was seeing her Colombian suitor Sebastian Gasca, whom she met in Boracay.
She said about the guy, “Friend ko. Sinurprise niya ako sa Korea, sa Jeju.”
WONDERFUL POSSIBILITIES. Another thing to look forward to for Jessy is a possible acting project in South Korea.
“Actually, iniisip nga nila na mag-collab ang Korea and Philippines para sa isang project.
“Sobrang honored naman ako kung pipiliin nila ako ‘tapos isang Korean actor or actress ang makakasama ko. Di ba ang saya?
“Sobra gusto ko yun.
“At saka sobrang generous ng Koreans sa ideas at yung pagiging open nila sa possibilities so nakakatuwa din.
“Imagine out of nowhere, pinili nila ako as ambassadress. Sabi ko, ‘Bakit kaya nila ako pinili?’ I think parang nag-poll sila.
“Natuwa naman ako sa resulta ng previous trips ko sa Korea. Nag-shoot na rin ako dun for a magazine cover. Twice na rin akong nakapunta ng Korea as Korean ambassadress.
“First yung sa Seoul, pumunta kami sa Myeong-dong, Dongdaemun, Insadong.”
Is it part of her contract with Korean Tourism Organization to stay in South Korea?
“Okay lang sa akin” was her reply, laughing.
“Hindi, wala naman. I just have to visit lang and then when I come back here, I have to promote it.”
