Save or grow your money through investments—these are two ways to be financially secure.

Nine out of 10 Filipinos suffered financial shortage in the last 12 months.

That's according to the survey conducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Sun Life Financial Philippines, Inc. (SLFPI), and participated by Filipino adults nationwide in the first quarter of 2014.

Thus, the insurance company declares June as Financial Independence Month.

In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Mylene Lopa, chief marketing officer of SLFPI, said that they will be holding training sessions around the country to help Pinoys plan their future.

She added, “...basically, marami kaming mga programs na ilo-launch in June to help Juan learn more about planning for their future, making their money worthwhile for them para hindi sila kinakapos.

“And what are these programs?

"Number 1, magkakaroon kami ng financial independence training sessions.

"Yung iba kasi mahilig naman mag-attend ng kung anu-anong self-enrichment programs. Ito, these training sessions will be held all over the country, meron sa Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao and Iloilo.

The training sessions in Metro Manila are scheduled in the last weekends of June.

Lopa reiterated, “Sa Manila on June 21 and 28 sa SMX Convention Center, for as low as 5000 pesos, they could already have an investment, 5000 pesos where their money can grow over time.”

GROWING MONEY. Asked about ways so Pinoys can save, she answered, “First step, magkaroon ng habit of saving.

“Kasi, as soon as we get our paycheck, if we spend all of it, wala nang matira.

"Pag bigla ka magkaroon ng expense, mangungutang ka na niyan so mababaon ka na.

"So the first thing to do pag magkaroon ka ng pera, you have to save a portion of it.

“Second, puwede ka maghanap ng products that can help to grow it more.”

And the key to earning more for your money according to her is, “Save, Invest, and Learn.”
