The important thing is to resolve the big issues at once, says Manilyn Reynes, and it starts with listening to what your spouse has to say.

Keeping the flame burning is a constant challenge in any marriage. Differences crop up, irritations set in.

Many couples have failed to survive the challenge and opted out.

Fortunately, much more than many have emerged winners, having a found a way to surmount the bumps in their lifetime journey together.

Among the winners are popular showbiz couple Manilyn Reynes and Aljon Jimenez, married for 18 years and blessed with three sons.

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) recently visited Manilyn on the set of her weekend show Pepito Manaloto.

Here, the celebrity mom enumerated the secrets of her successful marriage.

RESOLVE ISSUES AT ONCE.

“Hindi pwedeng ipagpabukas na ‘yan lalo na kapag something more serious than the usual.

“Kapag petty lang, medyo okay na ‘yan.

“Pero kapag mabibigat, parang ‘Oops, pag-usapan natin ‘to kahit anong oras tayo matulog.’

LISTEN. Manilyn related, “We always listen to what the other person has to say.

SHOW RESPECT.

ADMIT MISTAKES. Saying sorry knows no gender, according to Manilyn.

BE HUMBLE. Continuing her statement about saying sorry, Manilyn stressed the importance of lowering one’s pride to keep a harmonious relationship.

Wala ng ganun,” she said.

BE SUPPORTIVE ALWAYS. Manilyn's manager is Aljon as the Kapuso actress believes no other person can better negotiate the business side of her career than her husband.

She related how this works, “With things about roles and things that require me to do na medyo [alanganin], sinasabi ko.

“Sinasabi naman niya, ‘Do you feel comfortable with it it?

"'Kasi if you don’t feel comfortable, don’t do it or sabihin mo para gawan natin ng paraan.’”

And so it goes in the happy partnership of Manilyn and Aljon.
