In the September issue of YES! magazine, Toni Gonzaga talks about being bullied in school, and Alex, about falling for the wrong guys.

Toni Gonzaga had a clear plan in her head when she was just starting out in showbiz.

She would be joining all the singing contests that she could possibly join and win. Then, hopefully, she would be discovered and become a certified singer.

So clear was her plan that when she was asked by her high school teacher to tell the class what her plans are for her future, she confidently declared: “I am going to be an international star.”

The teacher talked to Toni and told her: “Be realistic. ’Yong kaya mo lang abutin...”

Toni felt bad about the incident, but she wasn’t disheartened. She was actually used to being sneered at by then. Her teacher wasn’t the only one trying to put her down.

“I was bullied growing up,” Toni tells YES! magazine in an exclusive interview. “I didn’t have a lot of friends in school kasi I started working at a very young age.

"I was a loner in school, and I really felt at that time na parang school wasn’t really for me.

"I felt like I was meant to be somewhere else.”

That “somewhere else,” as it developed, was exactly where she would be launched as a bright new face in show business.

And today, she is reaping praises for being a reliable host, a capable singer, and a favorite female lead in the movies.

ALEX. Meanwhile, the younger Gonzaga sister is thankful that her Ate Toni paved the way for her to be where she is now. Even her transfer back to ABS-CBN after her contract ended with TV5 has been nothing but smooth sailing.

“Nagulat ako pagpasok ko sa ABS-CBN. Lahat sila, sobrang welcoming, as in lahat.

"Hindi nila pina-feel sa akin na galing akong ibang istasyon, may mga gano’ng feeling, 'di ba?

"Kunwari may isang lumipat from another network, parang, ‘Ba’t andito ’to?’

"Sa akin, wala talaga. Lahat sila, talagang open arms sila.”

She is ready to do anything reasonable for her showbiz career , but she draws the line on her love life. Yes, she’s swearing off love at the moment. After having cried buckets of tears over a few guys, she says she is sick of getting into relationships for all the wrong reasons.

There was a time when she thought differently. “During that time,” she recalls, “parang gusto ko lang magkaro’n ng boyfriend. Basta lang magkaroon. I was desperate.”

Toni chimes in, “Gusto lang niyang makiuso.”

Alex agrees, “Kahit sino na lang ang lumapit, ‘Puwede na ’to!’ ’Tapos, later on, mare-realize ko hindi talaga puwede.”

The Gonzaga sisters share more stories about their adventures and misadventures in love, life, and career in the YES! September 2014 issue.

The funny girls also give readers a tour of their newly-renovated home, letting cameras inside their private bedrooms and
dressing rooms.

OTHER STORIES TO LOOK FORWARD TO. The current issue also has over 100 photos from KC Concepcion’s three-month stay in New York.

“New York is like the city of all cities,” says the 29-year-old actress. “Pag sinabi mo na ‘cosmopolitan city,’ parang New York talaga ’yong peg ng lahat ng mga cosmopolitan cities sa mundo.”

It also features the brand-new home of child wonder Ryzza Mae Dizon.

Ryzza’s mother, Rizza, relates that after six months of relentless search, she finally found the perfect place they would call home.

“Tuwang-tuwa siya,” Mama Rizza says, relating Ryzza Mae’s reaction upon seeing the townhouse unit. “As in, nagtatalon do’n sa sala. Naglaro po silang magkakapatid. ’Tapos, sabi niya, ‘Mama, ito na lang ang kunin natin, kasi napakaganda, napakalaki.’”
