Police Officer 2 (PO2) Mariano Perez Flormata Jr.—who took the stage name Neil Perez—stood out among 27 candidates and was crowned Mister of the Philippines International 2014.
The male beauty pageant was held last September 7, Sunday, at the University of Makati.
Flormata was a crowd favorite during the competition.
But it did not come as a surprise since the police officer became a hot topic in social media last month when he announced his participation in the said pageant.
As winner of Misters of the Philippines 2014, Flormata will get to represent the country in the 2014 Mister International pageant to be held in Grand Hilton Seoul, Seoul, South Korea, on October 18, 2014.
The hunky police officer promised that he will train harder for the international pageant.
“Pagpapatuloy ko ito at gagandahan ko pa, gagalingan ko pa.
"Yung communication skills, dadagdagan ko pa yung training," said Flormata in an interview with GMA News Online.
NOT JUST A POLICE OFFICER. Flormata, who hails from from Tondo, Manila, has been serving as a member of the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport since 2008.
Last month, Flormata was featured on Rated K, a television magazine show on ABS-CBN.
In the interview, he described how people would compliment him for his good looks.
“Minsan sasabihan ako, ‘O, ba’t nagpulis ka pa? Dapat nag-artista ka na lang.’ Mga ganung biro, natutuwa naman ako dun.”
According to Flormata, his dad, who is a retired policeman, was his inspiration in choosing his profession.
“Sa side kasi ng father ko at mother, puro pulis din.
“Naging magandang impluwensiya din sa akin ang father ko, kasi nung bata ako, nakikita ko yung mga records niya… naging Most Outstanding Policeman siya.”
Flormata explained that he keeps his body fit by taking good care of it through regular exercise.
“Kahit duty ako, nag-e-exercise ako. Kunwari kakain ako ng marami, dapat ibu-burn ko siya kinabukasan.”
According to Flormata, joining male pageants is more than just for vanity. He actually has a deeper purpose behind it.
“Gusto kong ipakita sa tao na ang pulis, hindi lang paghuhuli ng mga kriminal [ang kaya], kundi pagsali din ng ganitong pageant at to promote healthy lifestyle.”
He also clarified that he won’t give up his profession even if he joined a male beauty pageant.
