Why the sudden fascination for running? Enzo Pineda answers, “Because it’s a mentally challenging sport, because I’m a very impatient person.”

Enzo Pineda is motivated to run for reasons apart from health.

For the Kapuso hunk, running does not only require physical strength, it's also mentally challenging.

“‘Yon ang nahanap ko sa running, nakita ko na running is a physical sport, definitely.

“But what I like about it is it’s a mentally challenging sport because I’m a very impatient person,” said Enzo in a recent chat with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

He also stressed the importance of having a fit mind not just the body when he joins fun runs and marathon.

“Kaya ako sumasali sa marathons para i-train ko ang utak ko na maging patient.

"To challenge myself kung hanggang saan ba kaya ng mental capacity ko.

“Running is a mental sport.

“First 5k mo, okay, pinagpapawisan ka.

"Pero ‘yong mga sinasalihan kong 21k, tatakbo ako ng mga two hours and 30 minutes.

“It’s actually tiring lalo na sa utak kaya dapat mentally strong ka if you want to be a runner.”

The 24-year-old actor said this kind of discipline helps him a lot, especially with his work.

He explained, “Sa pagiging artista, you don’t always get work.

“So parang tine-train ko ang sarili ko to be patient, to be hardworking, to always value the small details, and always work on your craft.”

Enzo also added, “Running also is a very humbling sport kasi maraming mas mabilis sa ’yo na tumakbo.

“Lalo na kapag sa races, ‘yong feeling na nauunahan ka, masakit sa pride, e.

“So, ako, marami akong natututunan sa pagtakbo ko.”

RUNNING BUDDIES. As an avid runner, Enzo promotes the benefits of this exercise and has encouraged his family and friends to run with him.

For his birthday last month, the former StarStruck V avenger enjoined his showbiz friends to join him in Sofitel Half Marathon.

“Para maiba naman, gusto ko mag-celebrate ng birthday ko in a different way,” Enzo smiled when PEP asked about the event.

“Tumakbo kami, at least this is for health purposes also.

“Nakakatawa kasi sila Rocco [Nacino] and Steven [Silva] are also athletes.

“Ako naman, I just wanna share my new love, which is joining marathons.

“Happy ako na nakikita nila ‘yong value nito at sinusuportahan nila ako rito.”

If he were to convince people to get into running, what would Enzo tell them?

He answered, “Siguro to those who want to try running, ang ia-advise ko lang is don’t expect too much.

“Know your body, don’t push yourself, and it takes time to be a good runner.

“It takes a lot of mileage in running. I think it applies in everything naman.”

He also pointed out, “Kung magsisimula ka sa ibang bagay, you have to accept that baguhan ka and marami kang kailangang matutunan.

“Also, you won’t be good in less than a year. It takes a lot of time.

“Kung gusto n’yo talaga i-try tumakbo, just be patient because running takes time.

“Take it slow and huwag ninyong bibiglain ang sarili ninyo.

“Don’t try the 21k, 42k marathon kaagad kasi masama ‘yan sa joints.

“Kailangan ninyo ng mileage para masanay ang katawan ninyo sa pagtakbo.”

NEXT PLAN. His next goal after doing the half marathon, “Pwede akong mag-Condura [Skyway Marathon] and gusto ko rin mag-Cobra Ironman.”

Right now, Enzo divides his free time between running and swimming, “Gusto ko maging triathlete.”

The plan, according to Enzo, “Since 24 na ako, gusto ko makasali sa 19 to 24 na age bracket. At least kasama pa ako sa younger group ng triathlon, which is something unique.

“Sana makaabot ako next year sa Cobra Ironman.”
