It pays to be soothing and cool.
That’s what Rico Blanco advocates during the press launch of his latest endorsement, Valda Pastilles, held at the Alphonse Bar in Pasig City last September 11, Thursday.
“It’s a well-loved brand,” Rico brags. “It’s a heritage product.”
COOL ATTITUDE. The founding member of the rock band Rivermaya has learned how to relax through the years in showbiz. He admits that he has a lot of apprehensions when he left the rock band to pursue his solo career. It was clear from the start that he wanted to focus on new music. That’s why he never thought of doing a collaborative work with the band that popularized OPM hits, like “Awit ng Kabataan,” “Ulan,” “Liwanag sa Dilim,” and “Kisapmata,” among other hits.
“I’m more relaxed. I’m open to the idea,” says Rico when asked about doing a reunion concert with his ex-bandmates similar to Eraserheads’ Reunion Concert.
One of its past members is Bamboo, who is now one of the country’s biggest names in the music industry. Although he has not yet talked about a reunion neither to Bamboo nor other past members, Rico is excited for a possible throwback with Rivermaya in one reunion concert.
“I don’t think it will affect my success as a solo artist. My fans (are so) kind enough to embrace my new music every time I come up with something.”
COOL MUSIC. Speaking of new music, Rico wrote and composed the brand’s single entitled “Time for You.” Complementing the feel-good song is a full-length music video that leaves nothing but cool vibes.
On top of his new brand campaign, the singer-composer is prepping up for his upcoming concert with Gloc 9 and Yeng Constantino at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on November 21, 2014. Rico proudly beams that they will not only sing their own hits one after the other, but they will cross over other genres.
“Hindi ko pa kaya mag-rap,” counters the rock icon when asked what he would do in the concert.
Rico adds that they are still choosing the repertoire as they want to take advantage of their unique collaboration.
FRESH PROJECTS. Lately, Rico has focused on collaborative projects that promote Original Pilipino Music. He takes pride in sharing the concert stage with local artists as he gets to promote Pinoy music.
His creative collaboration is not only to creating new music but also flexing his acting muscles either in teleseryes or movies. In fact, the singer-turned-actor is busy filming an all-star cast movie entitled, Liwanag sa Dilim – lifted from his hit song of the same title. He also says that he is looking forward to doing another teleserye. He was last seen in the teleserye May Isang Pangarap on ABS-CBN.
Indeed, Rico is multi-talented artist with a cool persona.
