At the press conference last Wednesday, December 10, of her movie, Feng Shui 2, an entry in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2014, Kris Aquino shared her thoughts about being a single mother, dealing with heartaches, and valuing family over and beyond politics.
For starter, she gave media an update on the smoothing relationship between her ex-husband James Yap and their son Bimby.
Kris related that she has always pushed her son to get close to his father, "It is benefiting both Bim and Kuya [Joshua] na in-encourage ko yung relationship ni Bim with James.
"Super proud ako sa son ko na they are building the relationship, they are on the same page, honest sila with each other.
“And polite talaga siya sa girlfriend [ni James,] sa tatay niya, sa mga kamag-anak ng dad niya.
"Kasi syempre ‘di naman naging madali yung journey namin.
“Pero nung nakita nila na basta happy ang mom nila, [sabi nila] ‘Okay mom I’ll do it for you.’
"And I have to credit James, na ginawan niya talaga ng time.
“Na yung every Friday talaga, hahanapan niya ng oras talaga.
“Kung may shooting si Bim, pupuntahan niya sa shooting. Or nakikipag-basketball lang sa dalawa."
EVER-PRESENT MOTHER. Kris said she goes the distance when it comes to showing her love for her two sons.
“I’ve learned as a mother, natutunan ko talaga na they need me.
“Naramdaman ko na it’s not enough that I'm a great provider, I should be an ever present source of love, of caring.
"Kasi parang super ganda nga ng bahay ninyo, masarap pagkain ninyo, comfortable sila.
“Pero kung kumakain naman sila magisa gabi-gabi, parang what’s the point of all of that.
"So natutunan ko talaga how to balance, na parang kung hindi man ako makakauwi para mag dinner kami, sila yung pumupunta.
"And yung pag gising, kahit na umuwi ako ng six in the morning, ‘tapos paalis na si Bim, talagang hihintayin ko.
“Makikita niya na andun yung nanay niya.
"It’s a gift of time, ‘di ba. And nakita ko yun.
“And happy naman yung dalawa.
“Kasi pag nakita nila na walang angst nanay nila, happy sila. So ang dami kong natutunan.”
LESSONS OF THE HEART. According to Kris, "I learned the value of life because of what happened.
“I learned how to value those who are really important to you.
"Natutunan ko also, as far as political popularity is concerned, maraming ups and down talaga.
“Pero at your very core, pamilya kayo, you’re there for each other.
"Pag alam mo nang down, kailangan gawin mo na... babangon, gaganda.
“And hindi ka magbibigay ng sakit ng ulo, kundi magbibigay ka ng inspirasyon.
"Matters of the heart ang natutunan ko.
“That it’s beyond your control because it will take two of you to make anything successful.
"And if you’re not on the same page, kahit ikaw truthful and faithful and sure ka, kung hindi naman talaga kayong dalawa nandoon, magkakaiwanan kayo.
“And dapat walang looking back, dapat looking forward to everything," the actress declared.
Still and all, Kris appears to be ending 2014 on a happy note.
“Siguro rin last year na ganito, nagre-renew ng kontrata dito [ABS-CBN].
“Hindi alam kung ano mangyayari, ang daming pinagdaanan.
“This year, happy,” she concluded.
