It is exactly 24 hours before Marian Gracia Rivera becomes Mrs. Dingdong Dantes.
She gets cozy beside her groom on the couch of the two-bedroom villa of the Solaire Resort and Casino in Parañaque, the villa where Dong is billeted.
She is beautiful sans makeup—although she is a bit bothered by the single pimple on her left cheek that sprouted overnight.
“Masyado siyang maligalig!” she says of the pimple.
“Actually talaga, hindi rin ako masyadong nakakatulog sa sobrang excited ko… One day to go!
“Parang alam mong malapit na at bukas na, pero parang, ‘Hay! Totoo na ba ’to? Ito na ba ’to? Bukas na ba ’to?’”
The giddy bride, who is not prone to acne, earlier had an emergency appointment with one of her wedding’s principal sponsors, Dr. Vicki Belo, to get rid of the pesky blemish on her silky skin.
Otherwise, she is the picture of calmness, tucking her legs under her and caressing the arm of Dong—who, ironically, is the one in business mode, fixing last-minute wedding details and documents for his co-owned Hyundai car dealership.
Dong says he has also been suffering from sleepless nights lately.
“Kasi ang dami pang mga kailangang ayusin! Pero sabi ko, by five p.m. today, bibitiw na ako. Bahala na sila [wedding organizers]. Wala na akong iisipin.”
Unlike other grooms, Dong has been hands-on in the wedding preparations.
Some of the arrangements were kept secret from his bride, to surprise her come wedding day.
His goal: to make Marian “the happiest woman in the world.” It is his ultimate gift to his wife-to-be.
“Alam ko ’yong gusto niya,” he says of his bride.
“So, lahat ng pupuwede kong ibigay at gawin, ’bibigay ko sa araw na ’yon.
“And do’n lang mag-uumpisa ’yon. Hindi lang naman ibig sabihin sa araw na ’yon, pero after that.
“Kasi buhay na ang ibibigay mo, e.”
He points out, “The wedding ceremony will just happen for one day, and then it would be over.
“It would be done, wala pa ngang twenty-four hours.
“Pero what really matters is what happens after. Every day, ’yon ’yong totoong journey.”
On December 30, Dingdong did just that—he promised to share his life with his new bride Marian in a luxurious wedding attended by their family and friends.
