Lipstick is an instant beauty boost.
It can also set your current mood—sweet? sexy? or fierce?
But of course the perfect pout comes with the right shade and the proper technique, take if from the beauty queens!
At the first-ever Lipstick Festival organized by SM Beauty, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainmet Portal) asked Miss Universe 2010 4th runner-up Venus Raj, Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up Shamcey Supsup, and Miss Universe 2010 3rd runner-up Ariella Arida for some tips.
July 22 was the International Lipstick Day, and its launch was held at the beauty section of The SM Store in SM Makati.
FAVORITE SHADES. Venus has more than 20 lipsticks, most of which have the same shade: her favorite, plum.
For Shamcey, any shade of pink is the best for her.
She explained, "Parang nakakabata. It gives you that youthful glow. Kasi usually mga teens, parang ganyan, mga blush colors ganyan.”
She’s more into matt lipstick than the glossy ones.
“Hindi ako sanay [sa glossy], I feel like it is slimy, parang ganun.
“But I think, it can work both naman pero matt talaga ako. Usually kasi matt pero nag-try din ako ng gloss, maganda din pala siya.”
Ariella doesn’t have specific favorite shade. It depends on her mood.
She explained, “Most of the time, red or nude. Palitan lang siya.
"Mostly siguro kapag gabi red or kaya yung tipong pag tamad ako magmake-up dinadaan ko na sa red lipstick, feeling ko okay na, full na yung araw ko.”
VENUS TELLS WHAT IS THE RIGHT SHADE FOR YOU.
Even though Venus is morena, she prefers to have dark shades, including red.
Take note: Venus believes that you can wear any shade of lipstick but you should learn the art of mixing.
Plus, did you know vein has something to do with the right shade for you?
Venus began, “Mahilig kasi ako maghalo-halo ng lipstick. Any shade of red puwede paghaluin and ganito siya. Kailangan mo lang talaga malaman yung shade for you.
"Basta anything na dark red and basta warm shades of red, ginagamit ko.
"Well, kasi contrary to that, before kasi, hindi ako gumagamit ng red, feeling ko kasi kapag dark-skinned ka, hindi bagay sa ’yo yung red lipstick pero hindi nama pala.”
Venus shared amazing tips on how to determine the best shade for you.
1. Check your wrist. Determine whether your skin tone is warm or cool by looking at the veins in your wrist.
2. If your vein is blue or bluish, your undertone is cool. So, bright shades are best for you.
3. But if the color of your vein is green, that means you are warm undertone. Any lipstick that has dark shade is best for you.
“Green [vein], I recommend warm tone—red, red orange is good, red plum.
“Blue [vein] tone on the lighter shade. If you like wearing pink, you can also choose the darker shade of pink if you are warm [undertone]. Or brighter shade of pink if you have cool undertone."
LIP TIPS AND TUTORIAL FROM ARIELLA.
When asked how she makes her lipstick stay longer, she said foundation and lip liner can help.
She instructed, “'Di ba base muna, then foundation, nilalagyan ko yung lips ko kasi sabi nila nag-i-stay longer kapag may ganun [foundation] and lip liner din, feeling ko.”
“Yung foundation sinasama ko siya sa lips."
Have thin lips? Let the lip liner solve that problem for you.
“Hindi siya [lips] even. May mga tao kasi like na kapag nagsasalita hindi even yung lips.
"During the pageant, all the time naka-smile ka, on screen naman hindi nakikita yung lips ko, actually, I put lip liner.”
“Mas mataas pa siya sa actual lip line, doon ko siya nilalagay para maging fuller yung lip mo.”
Another tip from Ariella if you want to achieve naturally-pouty lips: “Put a lip gloss on the center part para parang naka-pout ka na. Parang effortless na naturally, naka-pout ang lips mo.”
Ariella added, ”Actually, it depends on how confident you are.”
SHAMCEY'S LIPS REMEDY. No type or shade of lipstick will be good on you if you have chapped, dry or dark lips.
But don’t worry, Shamcey has the quick remedies.
1. She brushes her lips before applying anything on it.
What’s good about this? It removes the excess dry skin on your lips. And the best time to do it, ”after brushing [teeth], brush mo din lips mo kasi by that time, malambot pa skin, madali siyang matannggal.
“Usually, madali mag-chap [lips] ko and mahilig ako magtanggal ng excess skin sa lips, minsan nasusugat.”
2. Shamcey uses lip balm before applying lipstick.
3. Look for a product that can exfoliate your lips. Shamcey described it as, "parang mga beads din siya for the lip, iti-take off yung excess skin sa lips mo.”
And here's one more reminder from Shamcey, “Same with your skin, you also have to take care of your lips.
“Sometimes when you use too much lipstick and you don’t take care of it, nagiging dry and nagcha-chap.
"No matter how pretty your shade is, pero kung lubak-lubak na road [ang lips], you really have to know how to take care of it."
