“When I entered my teen years, I was so unattractive.
“The kids in school always bullied me because of how I looked.
“Mukha akong nerd noon, and I only had a few friends to be with kasi the other kids in school were so mean,” natatawang pag-alala pa ni Megan nang makapanayam namin siya sa press launch ng Marimar noong August 17, sa GMA Annex Building.
UGLY DUCKLING.
“I was called Betty La Fea because I wore glasses, I had braces 'tapos yung buhok ko was so kinky.
“'Tapos ang payat-payat ko pa.
"I was taller than the other kids in school, pero bad posture ako kasi wala akong confidence dahil sa mga panunukso nila sa akin.
“Those were the years that I never felt beautiful.
TRANSFORMATION. Noong mag-15 years old si Megan, doon na raw nagkaroon ng pagbabago sa kanya physically at nagsimula na siyang mag-bloom.
Yun din ang panahon na naisipan niyang mag-audition para sa season two ng reality-based artista search na StarStruck.
“I was growing into my looks when I turned 15.
“I gained great friends who gave me so much confidence in myself.
“Masasabi ko that the inner beauty just came out.
“And even though I was quite shy, I tried auditioning for StarStruck.
“I just wanted to prove something sa sarili ko.
“I wanted to show them that I am not this boring girl. I can do lots of things if they teach me and show me how it is done.
“I wanted to come out of my shell and be this new person,” ngiti ni Megan.
LEARNING FROM STARSTRUCK EXPERIENCE.
Kuwento niya, “Nagulat ako when they offered me to be a host of StarStruck with Dingdong Dantes.
“I mean, hindi naman ako yung winner. Avenger lang po ako. I only made it to the Top 6.
“But I am so happy because by being one of the show’s hosts, I will be able to share with these new contestants how it is to be in that show.
My friends would always say na matatanggal ako kaagad.
“But it was my determination to learn and do the challenges of singing, dancing, and acting that made me survive that long.
“Kaya malaki ang pasasalamat ko sa StarStruck because that is where I started, and it made me who I am today.
“The confidence I gained from that show made me a stronger person.
"And it makes me like to share everything I learned from StarStruck to these new kids who are out to dream, believe, and survive.”
HONING HER ACTING CHOPS.
“The only acting na na-master ko ay ang maging kontrabida, which I did in a few teleserye.
“But that wasn’t enough and I want to learn more.
“I want people to take notice na may improvement sa pagiging artista ko.
“It’s not enough that you are known as a beauty queen. After your reign, tapos na. Normal person ka ulit.
“But as an actress, people will get to watch your performance over and over again.
“I want to leave a good impression as an actress.
"And doing Marimar made me work harder to be the actress I always wanted to be.”
