Heart Evangelista on the importance of maintaining healthy skin: "You have to take care of the canvas itself. Kung maganda ang canvas, madali lang gawan ng paraan.”

Heart Evangelista feels she has come full circle by authoring her own beauty book, This is Me, Love Marie.

The style icon tells PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "Because that’s how is started out. The kikay girl… I was Missy in G-mik [a youth-oriented show aired in ABS-CBN in 1999].

“I have always been parang very maarte pero mabuting tao naman.

“Feeling ko it was time to share yung mga beauty secrets ko, yung mga natutunan ko after being in showbiz for, what, turning 17 years now.”

Would you believe Heart, she with the fresh, glowing look, went through an awkward stage?

She says, “You’ll see certain looks that I had when I was this age. Yung certain makeup choices ko like using blue eye shadow.

“It’s all in the book. Pati flaws ko pinakita ko.”

Heart is referring to a phase in her life when she wore full bangs just to hide her teenage breakouts.

Aside from dedicating her book to avid fans, Heart encourages her bashers to get to know her better with her anecdotes about overcoming her struggles in life.

"I'm number one misunderstood.

"Kapag sinabi ng tao, even in school, 'There’s this girl, ang arte niya.'

"Actually arte is not a negative thing.

"Arte means mahilig lang siyang mag-ayos, kikay...pero mabuting tao naman siya."

This is Me, Love Marie features a lot of kikay stuff—from makeup must-haves and do-it-yourself skin care masks, to blemish busters and beauty tricks to achieve Heart’s barely-there makeup look.

Here are beauty and skin care tips from Heart herself:

1. Have the four basic shades of lippies.

Heart believes the right lippie color gives a girl that instant boost of confidence.

4. Banish pimples with DIY masks.

Manage breakouts by combining ¼ cup outmeal, ¼ cup of water, and two teaspoons of honey.

Mix them until you form a paste. Spread evenly on your face and wipe off after 10 to 15 minutes.

5. Wear sunscreen.

Fight sun damage and skin aging by wearing sunscreen with at least SPF 30.

This basic skin regimen is usually take for granted, but it will help your skin in the long run.

Heart says maintaining healthy skin is more important than putting on makeup.

“You have to take care of the canvas itself. Kung maganda ang canvas madali lang gawan ng paraan.”
