Rafael Rosell put a new twist to his recent birthday celebration. Instead of having a traditional birthday party, he timed it to coincide with the Roselle Festival, in honor of the hibiscus plant lauded for its therapeutic properties.

Kuwento ni Rafael, “This was the Roselle Festival na ginanap nung November 15.

“Puwede mong gawing iced tea.

Ayon kay Rafael, “Sa mga Shumei farmers, mga spiritual farmers, it was a very successful event.

€“Shumei, directly translated, it’s spiritual. Japanese technique siya, e.”

FASCINATED WITH PLANTS.

"At nabanggit nila yung Roselle. So sabi ko, ‘O, last name ko Rosell!’

“Sabi nila, ‘Ah talaga? Kasi harvest season nito November!’

“Sabi ko, ‘Ah, birthday ko mid-November!’ So na-excite na sila dun. This was like a year ago pa.

“[Sabi ng farmers]‘We’ll use you as our guest of honor. We’ll use the hibiscus plant to promote it dahil local siya, sarili natin ito.

“'We can make it better than iced tea with health benefits, without the sugar. Nakaka-lower siya ng cholesterol at blood pressure.'

“So ayun, nag-collaborate... iyon na yung naging festival.

“Fascination for the hibiscus plant itself per se, wala naman talaga...

Magtatanim ulit ng bago, very fascinating.”
