Maine Mendoza reveals primary consideration before agreeing to endorse a brand

Maine Mendoza on stardom: "I must admit that it is physically tiring. But I am humbled and really thankful that there are fans who support me and to me, that is the best part of the job."


Undoubtedly, Maine Mendoza is having the time of her life.

In less than seven months, she soared to stardom, which used to be just a dream for the 19-year-old star.

She told this writer in an interview held recently, "Never kong inakala na makararating ako sa lugar na ‘to.

"I am doing what I really want to do, and I am very thankful because of that."

It can be recalled that it all began with an app, the Dubsmash.

She initially did it for fun.

But it did not occur to her that imitating Kris Aquino will make her an Internet sensation overnight, and soon, a mainstay of Eat Bulaga!

Maine became Yaya Dub, the other half of the famous AlDub and screen partner of Alden Richards in the noontime show's Kalyeserye.

Currently, she's one of the most in-demand cover girls and most sought-after endorsers.

But to become famous is not as simple as Maine imagined.

"Not as easy as I thought it was," she admitted.

"I must admit that it is physically tiring.

"But I am humbled and really thankful that there are fans who support me and to me, that is the best part of the job."

Add to this is the trust of advertisers.

To date, she's like averaging two endorsements per month—telecom, direct-selling company, smartphone, fast food chain, retail brand, shampoo, detergent, fabric conditioner, and home care products, chocolate, soft drinks, chocolates, and most recently, CDO Funtastyk Young Pork Tocino.

Maine was so grateful, "I got excited because this is another blessing and opportunity for me.

"I have to set an example though because of all the personalities that we have, they still chose me to represent their  product."

Does she have rules or guidelines on choosing the brands or products she will endorse? 

Her reply: "I should make sure that the products I endorse are of high quality, because I know that having me as their endorser will affect people’s choices."

The tocino brand, for example, the primary consideration was she has to like it.

Maine threw in, "Kumakain na talaga ako ako ng CDO Funtastyk Young Pork Tocino so super excited ako to do the project," and it also became easy for her to do the TV commercial.

"Yung shooting was quite an experience for me dahil ang dami kong emosyon na kailangang ipakita sa isang commercial lang. 

"Kailangan kong umarte na seryoso, fierce, heartbroken, at iba pang emosyon. 

"Pero siyempre, I have my favorite part," she said, referring to the eating scene.

Then with much candor, she remarked, "Finally, I was able to express the real me, kenkoy and fun, fantastic baby pa more!"

To show what she meant, she delivered her line the way she'd do a Dubsmash video: flawless!

"It’s delicious. Talagang tender ito dahil gawa sa young pork at hindi sa inahing baboy. Hindi malitid. It’s easy to cook, too! Walang ka-hassle-hassle i-prepare."

Then reverting to her kenkoy self, Maine compared her latest venture to young love.

"The beauty of young love is pure and carefree.

"You enjoy and be yourself without any worries.

"Parang fun and puro good vibes lang."

Now whether or not she's giving Alden a hint on how he can win her affection in real life, that's something alDub Nation can look forward to.
