Princess Punzalan downplays celebrity status while working as registered nurse in the U.S.

Princess Punzalan relates how her patients in the U.S. still recognize her as a celebrity: "Minsan nagugulat sila habang hini-head to toe assessment ko sila, nakikita nila ako. 'Tapos sabi nila, 'Di ba ikaw si Princess Punzalan?' Merong magpapa-picture."

Yesterday, July 8, Princess Punzalan flew back to the U.S.

But there's a possibility she'll be back within the year since she was offered to do some acting projects.

"Ah, tingnan natin...nothing is on paper yet," she told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at the presscon of skin-care specialists Drs. Manny and Pie Calayan.

She added, "Babalik na lang ako kapag sure na yung mga projects. So for now, babalik muna ako sa pagiging ina."

She traveled with her two-year-old daughter Ellie and American-businessman/husband Jay Field.

CELEBRITY MOM. Does Ellie know she is an actress?

"I don't think she has an idea yet. But she gets surprised when she sees me, and she's looking at the TV parang, 'Mommy [on TV], Mommy [in personal],'" she related.

But has Ellie seen The Story of Us?

Laughing, the character actress said, "Hindi, kasi wala kaming TV. Hahaha!

"I'm renting a place now na walang TV.

"Oo, so hindi kami nakakapanood regularly talaga."

Besides, it's better that way, "Mas madaling patulugin yung bata e walang distraction."

How about staying in the Philippines for good? Is that on the horizon?

"Right now, wala."

NURSING CAREER. The topic shifted to her regular job: being a nurse.

"Very challenging kasi, it's a totally different career. Pero it's always nice to know that there are other things that you can do.

"Kung sakaling ayoko na rito, I can do something else.

"And besides, even if I really don't work as a nurse anymore, malaking advantage yun bilang isang ina because you would know how to take care of your family.

"Ayun, lalo na minsan nagbakasyon kami, biglang nagkasakit ang anak ko.

"Wala kaming hospital na mapuntahan. Alam ko yung gagawin ko.

"So for practicality's sake, mas madaling mag-alaga ng pamilya kung alam mo yung mga dapat mong gawin at hindi mo dapat gawin."

Why did she choose that profession?

"Kasi noong teenager ako, gusto kong maging doktor.

"E, since ayokong mag-aral ng 12 years, I thought nursing was a better choice for me."

Does she ever get attached to any of her patients?

"Minsan," she said.

"Minsan nagkakaroon ako ng attachment, but I try not to be too attached kasi mahirap minsan gumawa ng desisyon, crucial decisions kapag may emotions nang kasama."

Yes, some of her patients recognize her.

"Ay, meron, meron!

"Minsan nagugulat sila habang hini-head to toe assessment ko sila, nakikita nila ako.

"'Tapos sabi nila, 'Di ba ikaw si Princess Punzalan?' Merong magpapa-picture."

Doesn't she mind the picture-taking part?

"Okey lang naman sa akin.

"Nagugulat lang yung mga non-Filipino na mga doktor saka nurses, staff, because bakit daw nagpapa-picture sa akin yung mga pasyente."

What does she tell them?

She quipped, "Ah, because I'm famous!

"Kapag medyo kulang ako sa oras minsan, 'Ah, kamukha mo si Princess Punzalan.'

"Sabi ko, 'Marami nga pong nagsabi.' 'Tapos, 'Excuse me lang po.'

"Kasi siyempre, kapag wala kang oras, ang dami pang ibang gagawin.

"Pero madalas, I talk to them naman."
