Anytime he needs to say goodbye to his showbiz career, Antonio Aquitania has found a back-up plan.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) recently interviewed the comedian at the taping of GMA-7's Sa Piling Ni Nanay.
Since his talent manager Douglas Quijano passed away five years ago, Antonio chose not to have a manager.
When asked, "Hindi ba mahirap?"
He replied, “Hindi, parang Bubble Gang na lang din kasi yung ano, e [regular]."
Together with his partner, a guy he calls Jason, Antonio ventured into shoemaking three years ago.
He resumed, "Aside from [shows] kasi, may ginagawa akong business.
"Nagsu-supply ako sa Robinson ng sapatos."
His shoes are made in Cebu.
“Tatak po ni Gokongwei, si Estella. Dun po ginagawa, nandun yung magagaling na sapatero.”
Shipping has not been his concern since “hindi naman ganun karami, so sakto lang.”
SHOEMAKER. His business did not materialize out of thin air or whim.
Antonio beamed, "Nag-aral ako mga three years ago, sa Marikina."
So he designs the shoes himself?
“Ah, hindi po. Meron pong designer, pero alam ko lang po yung, usually, yung mga materyales and everything. 'Tsaka yung basic."
This reporter remarked, "Isa ka palang sapatero!"
He agreed, “Oo, pag hindi ako nagshu-showbiz.”
The income is not as high as his talent fee.
“Hindi po, sakto lang, pangtawid-guto.”
But he's proud that "kahit papaano, nakakapagtrabaho sa iba."
