When your mom is the billionaire who unseated Oprah as the richest woman of African descent in the world, spending five million pounds or over six million dollars for a wedding is nothing.


The Nigerian groom Folarin Alakija—the son of Folorunsha, who has an estimated fortune of two billion dollars—is an entrepreneur, cinematographer, and investor.

The bride is Iranian model/marketing consultant Nazanin Jafarian Ghaissarifar, who studied Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Manchester.

According to DailyMail.co.uk, the venue was the ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill which was exclusively rented out at a cost of "150,000 pounds (USD $190,000)."

Construction of the bespoke marble floor with the couple's initials in gold amounted to 200,000 pounds ($250,000).

Celebrity florist Jeff Leatham, who has done work for the likes of Madonna and the Kardashians (the bride dated Rob in 2013), brought a million white roses and orchids arranged by 30 people.

The cost was said to be over 250,000 pounds ($317,000).

The caterer was Searcys, which charges a "minimum of 52 pounds ($66) for a three-course meal, excluding alcohol."

Part of the menu were Montgomery cheddar custard and chive yogurt, parmesan panna cotta, and Wiltshire truffle.

The 12-foot, eight-tier cake was adorned with "hundreds of roses and ornate doves" by Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium. Its cost was estimated at 10,000 pounds ($12,000).


Lastly, Robin Thicke, whose talent fee costs around 150,000 pounds ($190,000), serenaded the wedding guests.

The evening ended with grand display of fireworks on the hotel grounds.

But the wedding, based on the "12 Most Expensive Weddings in History" published by the Business Insider, ranks only fifth.

Still number one on the list was the wedding of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.

According to the German-owned American news website: "The bill was $48 million in 1981, or $110 million when adjusted for inflation."
