Bella Flores: Local showbiz’s iconic villainess

Bella Flores passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013 due to complications after she had hip surgery in 2012. She was 84.

The veteran actress was also diagnosed with heart disease, diabetes and early signs of Alzheimer's disease.

Flores became very popular as the iconic villainess in the local showbiz industry because of her numerous portrayals of the female villain that made the lives of the protagonists miserable both on TV and in movies.

Her career spanned for 63 years.

Flores started in the business in 1950 at age 14 and was elevated among the prime stars due to the success of the 1951 film Roberta, where she played the role of an evil stepmother to the very young Tessie Agana (Roberta).

She received the Best Supporting Actress Award from Famas in 1967 for her role in the movie Ang Kaibigan Kong Sto. Niño.

She was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Film Academy of the Philippines in 1989.
