In honor of Director Gerardo "Gerry" de Leon's centennial, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) launched his commemorative stamp at the Leandro Locsin Auditorium, NCCA Bldg., Intramuros, Manila, on September 13, Friday.
Philippine cinema's most awarded director was born on Sept. 12, 1913 and died July 25, 1981.
Director Gerry de Leon, fondly called Manong, was a National Artist for Film (1982). He directed highly-awarded movies from the 1950s to 1970s. Some of his classic movies are: Sanda Wong (1955), Noli Me Tangere (1960), Moises Padilla Story (1961), El Filibusterismo (1962), and Banaue (1975), and many more.
Guests who attended the commemorative stamp launch were the late director's family members, including grandson Janno Gibbs, and some stars he directed: Anita Linda, Delia Razon, Robert Arevalo and wife Barbara Perez, Marita Zobel, and Luz Valdez.
