In 1986, Eddie Gutierrez and Annabelle Rama built their family home on a 660-square-meter lot in a gated community in Quezon City.
At that time, Mother Lily signed up Eddie to a one-year, four-picture contract.
After a year, Mother asked for an extension. What he asked in return was a house in White Plains.
But, "Sabi niya, 'Eddie, hindi ko puwedeng gawin iyan. Pag binigay ko sa iyo ang bahay na iyan, kailangang bigyan ko lahat ng contract stars ko--si Nora Aunor, si Gabby Concepcion, si Maricel Soriano, si ganyan ..."
But the actor stood his ground, and after days, the matriarch of Regal Films rang him. The rest, as they say, is history.
The Gutierrez residence had gone through quite a lot of repairs before it achieved its "tropical modern," thanks to Jeizele delos Reyes-Go, their interior designer.
