Model, actress, and aspiring beauty queen Kelley Day has revealed that she has been suffering from alopecia, a medical condition that causes hair loss in round patches.
Kelly was in near tears when she opened up about her condition in her Miss World Philippines 2019 introduction video.
The 23-year-old GMA Artist Center talent said she wanted to "raise consciousness on auto-immune diseases such as psoriasis and alopecia" through the pageant's Beauty With A Purpose advocacy.
The video, which was posted on the pageant's Facebook page last Thursday, August 22, has rbeen viewed over 20,000 times at press time.
Kelley found out about her medical condition last year.
She related, "This is the first time that I'm opening up about my alopecia situation where I have a bald spot on the back of my head.
"It took me almost a year ever since I found it in October 2018 to actually deal with it and only a couple of weeks ago have I started treating it properly."
Kelly said she has not not talked about this insecurity until now because of "fear and embarrassment... especially in my line of work where I always get my hair styled, people take photos of me all the time."
But joining the Miss World Philippines 2019 pageant has encouraged the former GirlTrends member to come out and help those who are also suffering from the same medical condition
She said, "My advocacy is to let people know that it's okay. I want people to know how to deal with it properly.
"With my story I want everyone to feel encouraged about who they are. I want people to see that no one's perfect, really no one's perfect.
"I think without Miss World Philippines I wouldn't have opened up about this. So I want to make the most of this platform. So please help me make a change."
In the same video, the aspiring beauty queen shared more details about her.
Kelley grew up in Dubai, where she finished her high school studies. The subjects she found most interesting were Biology, Math, and Design Technology.
By the time she turned 18, she decided to move to the Philippines and pursue a career in modeling and the entertainment scene.
Meanwhile, Katarina Rodriguez, the reigning Miss World Philippines 2018, will crown her successor on September 15, at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
