Sofia Andres admits that she is guilty of comparing herself to others.
The ABS-CBN actress said she used to do this in her teenage years, back when she was just starting her showbiz career.
These comparisons—either by Sofia herself, by the netizens, or even the people around her—made her feel incredibly insecure about herself.
But now, the 23-year-old Kapamilya talent is just glad that she was able to outgrow these insecurities.
Sofia recalled her experience in an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the press at the launch of her latest endorsement with Sooper Beaute last Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Azumi Boutique Hotel in Muntinlupa City.
She said, "Nung una, before po talaga kasi siyempre ang daming maganda, ang daming mas, you know... I feel like wala akong maio-offer pa."
Instead of dwelling on her insecurities, Sofia worked on improving herself and boosting her self-confidence.
The La Vida Lena actress said, "There's always room for improvement, right? I think that's what I really did.
"It's a process. It's not like just an instant kasi for other people, they think di ba now and social media, with TikTok and everything, it's just easy to be... to find yourself."
Becoming a mom also helped Sofia to care less about the opinions of other people.
Sofia continued, "But now I became a mother, I think that's how I really realize that I just found myself.
"This is me, di ba? Parang I don't care about anything, like, any other people, kung ano yung mga sinasabi nila.
"I don't listen to other people anymore kasi nakaka-stress lang. And life is short."
Asked for a piece of advice she can share to teenagers who are going through the same experience, Sofia reminded them of the power of self-love.
She said, "You just have to focus on yourself because people nowadays...
"Not naman nowadays, but for the millennials, they always compare themselves to other people, which is not really healthy.
"And that's what I did to myself. I just focused on myself, my goals, and the rest will follow."
SOFIA'S BRONZE GLOW
Although Sofia's confidence has greatly improved, she does feel a bit of insecurity when her skin breaks out.
For Sofia, this happens more frequently as an effect of always wearing a face mask to protect herself from COVID-19.
Luckily, she has discovered the wonders of Avocado Oil, which she has recently added to her skin-care routine.
She said, "Yun yung unang-una kong problema and na-stress ako because siyempre yung puhunan being an artist, di ba, yung face and all.
"So I just put the Sooper Beaute's avocado oil, and the next day, wala na siya."
She later clarified, "Hindi naman ako nagkakaroon ng malalaking pimple. Yung pasulpot-sulpot lang."
These past few days, Sofia also has a gorgeous bronze glow, thanks to her frequent beach trips with her daughter Zoe.
Much like what she did to address her breakouts, Sofia also adjusted her routine to take care of her tanned skin and minimize the sun damage.
She said, "I use the Aloe Vera serum. I put it all over my body and of course, my face kasi with that I don't peel. And... pantay yung kulay [ng skin ko].
"And I put Avocado Oil on my face bago matulog which really helps... it helps my breakouts and pimples, any skin concerns. Very simple lang."
