Celebrity make-up artist Jelly Eugenio is one of today’s most sought-after talents in his craft, with his work gracing billboards, editorials, and advertorials.
He’s also a favorite on TikTok with 187,000+ followers, gathering 3.5M likes.
Aside from giving insight into his life, Jelly's TikTok account features behind-the-scenes clips as he works with Anne Curtis, Catriona Gray, and Nadine Lustre.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) caught up with the make-up artist during #SunniesFunhouse, the launch of the new Sunnies Studios flagship store at Glorietta 2 last September 15, 2023.
Jelly says his TikTok presence is intentional.
"I’ve always wanted to put out content. The trick now with content is that it has to be informative, but more entertaining.
"It shouldn’t be a boring tutorial, it has to be fun."
The make-up artist also displays an astute understanding of his audience.
He points out, "People have very limited time to watch videos.
"Their attention span is getting shorter and shorter, so if you can grab their attention in the first few seconds, you should do that.
"You then start showing yourself to people, instead of just saying the things you like. They have to know your character before you tell them your stories."
In his videos, not only does the make-up artist give a mix of make-up tips and product recommendations, but he also shares anecdotes about his busy schedule.
His TikTok posts give a full view of his life and add credibility while being relatable, and they serve to show a different side of him than what people see on his Instagram account.
He explained, "Being a mak-eup artist, I also want people to know the fun version of me. It’s a bit different from what I put on Instagram.
"It’s Jelly as a make-up artist on Instagram, but on TikTok, it’s me who is not just a make-up artist, but also a fun person, who travels and doesn’t take everything too seriously.
"That’s my side on TikTok. I can express myself freely without being too conscious. That’s what I love about TikTok.”
MOST-WATCHED VIDEOS
One of Jelly's most popular posts is “Go To Work With Me - Makeup for Anne Curtis in ABSCBN,” which has 4.1M views.
He says of the post, "What’s so surprising is that I edited and did the voice over in the car. In short, the more it’s relaxed and the less pretentious, the more people like it.
"Ang wacky ng audio ko kasi I was in the car.
"I know part of it is Anne having a lot of fans and they like seeing her. But part of it is how viewers want to see what happens before I get to the job and being at the job, and how even after I have another client."
Being a make-up artist isn’t just all about being glamorous. There is a lot of hard work and dedication, along with nuances that we may not be able to see offhand.
Jelly gives us a direct point of view, "Another video that a lot of people like is my 'A week in the Life of a Make-up Artist' and that one I really worked so hard on.
"I was shooting videos for one week, but at the same time I was very busy during that week.
"What’s funny is that since it was seven days full of work non-stop. People comment, 'Oh, i-pause ko muna para makapagpahinga ka,' because they can see I really didn’t have rest time for one week straight.
"It’s so funny because they can relate to how make-up artists can get tired as well.”

How does Jelly stay fresh despite a busy schedule?
"There is skin care, but most importantly, you have to go home and sleep. That’s what is going to feed your skin. Don’t sleep with make-up on. Clean it off.”
He couldn’t reveal the brands he uses, but he swears by three products to keep his skin looking good.
“I use a foaming cleanser because I have oily skin, moisturizer, and then a really good SPF. Those are the most important to me.”
WHATS NEXT FOR JELLY EUGENIO
As for what’s next, expect Jelly to keep posting more videos.
Added to the categories aside from make-up try-ons and vlogs are those in pure Beki language.
“It’s so fun. Yun ang puwedeng ituro because not a lot of people know. We have a lot of terms in beki language.
"When I am with a client and we want talk about something that only we want to keep within our team, we talk in beki language.”
On top of that, Jelly is going to mount a workshop with fellow celebrity make-up artists Anthea Bueno and Mark Qua.
“We’re coming out with a workshop. Most likely first week of December, a whole-day event. We’re marketing it not just for make-up artists but also for everyone else.
"There will be a part where we will talk about how we do makeup on ourselves. We’re just checking where to do it. It has to happen this year!”
