Newbie talent Kayla Davies hopes to correct some notions about make-up, emphasizing that it's not merely about being "maarte" or for the sake of vanity.
In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Kayla described it as a dynamic form of self-expression and confidence booster.
“Honestly, in my opinion, make-up is not ‘maarte’ at all," Kayla told PEP at the Dazzle Me: Sleigh the Holiday and Dazzle with Purpose campaign, held on November 28, 2024, at Oro Plato in Taguig.
She continued, "If you wanna wear make-up, do it! Sometimes, I also feel a little insecure. So to me, make-up isn’t just make-up. It can help people express, it can boost their confidence, and much more."

KAYLA DAVIES: BEAUTY JOURNEY
Kayla is well aware of the misconceptions surrounding make-up, especially among young people.
This understanding came to her early, particularly because her role as a celebrity and content creator often requires her to wear make-up.
She said, “Personally, I love taking care of my self through skin care, and even experimenting with make-up!
"I love exploring new looks, new styles. It just makes me feel more confident in myself."
For those who may not be aware, Kayla is among the latest talents at Sparkle GMA Artist Center, the Kapuso network's talent management division.
She is currently thriving as an influencer with over 500,000 Instagram followers, and she's also pursuing her aspirations to become a performer.
When discussing her make-up journey, Kayla mentioned that it started similarly to those of many others, with social media fueling her curiosity.
However, her early attempts didn't always turn out as expected.
The young talent recalled, “Back in 2022, I first learnt about make-up from a TikTok video, and I wanted to try it out.
"My first experience with make-up wasn’t so good. I had foundation all over me, bright lip tint—basically, it was a mess."
Instead of being discouraged, Kayla used those initial stumbles as stepping stones.
“I kept on trying till I got better! And even up until now, it’s not the best, but I’ve improved,” she said.
Her passion for trying new ideas highlights how skin care and make-up can serve as powerful tools for empowerment and self-discovery.
For teens eager to start wearing make-up, Kayla offered simple but powerful words: “It may be hard at first, but don’t be afraid to explore!
"Maybe it’ll take a few tries, but just keep trying till you’re satisfied.”
KIKAY WITH A PURPOSE
In addition, Kayla is proudly embracing her identity as a "kikay with a purpose," showing her support for the event’s charitable cause.
Dazzle Me Philippines has teamed up with BNY Jeans for the Dazzle With a Purpose campaign, which transforms denim scraps into unique upcycled bag charms and totes.
Customers purchasing from their Shopee store will receive a complimentary bag charm with purchases of PHP499 or more.
These upcycled bag charms will be available exclusively in their Official Shopee store for a limited time, while supplies last.
Plus, for every charm sold, Dazzle Me will donate a generous bag of "dazzling products" to beneficiaries, such as Love Yourself, Inc., Kasuso Foundation, and Galing Pinas.
At the press conference, Diana Cai, the brand director of Dazzle Me Philippines, elaborated on the campaign by saying, “Beauty can be purposeful, creativity can be sustainable, and global aspiring brands like Dazzle Me can and must deepen our connection with local communities that help us thrive.
"We don’t want to just bring beauty to the Philippines, we want to build beauty with the Philippines."
