Iza Calzado and Toni Gonzaga-Soriano both believe that the modern Filipina now plays a more prominent role in the society than they do before.
Both respected figures in their craft, they represent the growing number of women who have the capabilities to influence change in media and inspire young girls.
Iza, whose recent achievements include Best Crossover Artist awarded by BroadwayWorld Philippines Awards for her stellar performance in the play Sabel: Love and Passion, defines the modern Filipina as “empowered.”
She says, “She is not afraid to speak her mind.
"She still values, I think, more… I think romantic more than, I think, the western counterparts.
"Kasi before, it’s Maria Clara, di ba? Ngayon, hindi naman ganun kahinhin, pero I think pinapahalaga pa rin ang sarili at ang kanyang puso at damdamin.
"But, at the same time, sinisigaw din kung ano ang laman ng puso at damdamin.”
Toni, who has continuously received many accolades from various award-giving bodies for her work as an Outstanding Female TV Personality, sees the modern Filipina as a person brimming with confidence.
She says, “A modern Filipina is someone who goes after her dream, who’s not arrogant, who knows what she wants and goes for it without stepping on anyone, and who has a firm stand on their beliefs and principles and core values.”
How about you, PEPsters? How do you define a modern Filipina?
