“Very Parisian ako,” said Solenn Heussaff when asked to describe her signature make-up.
If you check her Instagram account, you’ll see that the she has really mastered the minimal make-up look.
For this Filipina-French beauty who studied make-up artistry, less is more.
She related, “Yun yung gusto ko, effortlessly chic!
"Mga taga-Paris kasi effortless yung style nila.
“Parang fixed up sila but hindi.
“Mukhang nagising lang sila and ‘tapos umalis lang sila.
“Parang may leftover na mascara, messy hair, and dewy skin."
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) chatted with Solenn at her launch as the newest brand ambassador of L’oreal Makeup Designer/Paris in Century Mall, Makati.
FACE. We asked Solenn to elaborate on her “effortlessly chic” look.
She began, “The most important is choose the perfect tone of foundation because a lot of Asian women in the Philippines, they want to look whiter.
"So they buy a lighter shade, which is the biggest no-no.
“Kasi they see white as beauty, but for me, you really need to be comfortable with your own skin.
“You need to show your natural beauty and not cover up what God gave you.
“I love the True Match Foundation.
“I love the fact that it’s light with creamy texture, but it’s not greasy, it blends well with your skin.
“And you can put layers, and it’s not going to get heavy and it’s not clumpy. “
BROWS. For well-defined brows, the key is doing the right stroke.
“Dapat halimbawa when you use pencil, kailangan nandun pa rin yung stroke ng hair, dapat hindi ma-fill in nang todo-todo.
“It’s nice to have a thick eyebrows kasi, the thicker eyebrows you have, the younger you look.
“Dapat nandun yung strokes, then you fix it with a gel mascara.
"Kapag walang gel mascara, you can get the eye mascara then put it on the brush pero konti lang para hindi masyadong dark."
She demonstrated how to shape the eyebrows.
“You get ruler and isang pen. Dapat yung start ng eye brow naka-align dito [sa nose].
“Yung gitna ng mata, yun dapat yung arch, ‘tapos yung end ng mata and yung nose, yun yung dulo ng eyebrow."
CHEEKS. Avoid applying too much blush by tapping the excess powder off your brush before applying to your face.
“Dapat isang dub lang 'tapos super light lang,” she suggested.
“It's supposed to look like someone pinch you cheeks.
“Yun yung natural flush ng girls dapat.”
Here’s how Solenn does it: “I smile and ako, pabilog kasi yung face ko, mahaba.
“So depende, kung mas small yung face mo, to make it look like wider, they make it like these [upper stroke] yung application para mas magmukhang wide.”
LIPS. To achieve that perfect pout, learn how to experiment with the right shade of lipstick.
She said, “Ako I love to experiment with lipsticks. Although my regular lipstick talaga is parang like a rose nude type pero kapag gabi minsan, I use the Garnet of L’oreal.
“I like rose colors on me pero depende talaga sa tao kung anong bagay sa ’yo.
“Play around with lipsticks.”
And don't forget to balance your look.
“Kapag mas light yung eyes, more to play around with your lips. Kasi kapag dark yung eyes at smokey, siyempre naman kung dark sa [eyes], dapat light yung dito [lips].
“So if you keep light eyes, you get to play around with lipsticks.”
HAIR. Instead of spending too much time keeping each strand in place, go for the easy-messy style.
Solenn does it in three steps: “I just usually binabaliktad yung hair ko, ‘tapos spray net, then yun, gulo lang.”
“Ako I’ve been forever a messy-hair girl.
“Ayaw ko ng maayos sa akin.”
What’s cool about this look?
Well, in less than an hour, you’ll be glammed up.
Also, “You don’t need to be professional, but it is very important to know the basics.
“A lot of us say hindi naman magaling mga kamay ko or things like that.
“It’s not that really complicated,” Solenn said.
