As soon as she arrived from the U.S., one thing people noticed about Lea Salonga was her new hairdo.
One thing people asked: “why did you cut your hair?”
At her launch as the brand ambassador of Uniqlo’s summer collection on March 17, she told the press: “Wala. I'm not brokenhearted.
"I did not lose money in the lottery.
"Wala naman nangyari yung major life event na minsan, yung nagiging pasimuno ng drastic na haircut na ganito.”
Lea resumed, “Shorter, shorter [hair] na gradual.
“But when I went to New York, [I had a] bob.”
The world-class Filipina performer starred in the Broadway musical Allegiance.
“Parang hindi ko carry 'to, so I asked our hairdresser in Allegiance to cut it shorter.
“I've been so happy.
“Matagal-tagal na rin na I've been sporting a haircut this short.”
How did her husband Robert Chien find it?
Smiling, the Kapamilya star said, “He likes it.”
Her husband is not the type who would make a fuss about her hair.
According to Lea, his only request: “Huwag ka lang magmukhang lalaki. Yun lang.
“Yung lang naman request niya, but he likes the hair.
“The nice thing about hair this short daw is he noticed parang mas makapal yung hitsura kasi esponghado yung buhok ko so it tends to be bouffant, mas may body.”
ENDORSEMENT. The Japanese clothing brand she’s endorsing is her husband’s favorite.
“It's that one brand that helped me survive the winter in New York.
“Even though a lot of products na nanggaling dun, hindi makikita rito.
“I am grateful that I stay warm, I stay dry.
“Hindi ako nilamig ni minsan over there, so I'm grateful for the Ultra Light,” referring to Uniqlo’s light and warm down jackets, coats, parkas, and even vests.
For the summer collection, some clothing items have the DRY technology that dries sweat quickly and helps prevent those sweat marks, plus AIRism, which is anti-odor.
Lea remarked, “Now, I'm grateful they have the opposite naman here.”
