Nikki Gil's beauty glow is not primarily due to a beauty product.
At the What's Your skin Story event of Aveeno on August 24, the host/singer revealed, "It would be because of my husband, he knows how to take care of me."
Nikki has been married to businessman BJ Albert for nearly a year now, and will be celebrating their first year anniversary on November 21.
She added with a huge smile "I haven't really been dealing with much stress, and I've just been enjoying pure marital bliss!"
According to skin experts, emotions have effects on skin. Worrying, for instance, causes a "chemical response in the body that makes skin more sensitive and reactive," according to WebMD.com.
Nikki beamed BJ does not let her worry.
"He really takes care of me in both the literal and figurative sense of the word.
"Around the house, emotionally, when we travel, as much as possible, he doesn't like me thinking about things that can potentially stress me out."
SkInsecurities. But of course, she still needs to take good care of her skin.
"I'm a skincare junkie, so I have tried a lot of things."
Besides, her skin has had its share of bad days due to acne and scars.
Growing up, "I have very sensitive skin, even acne at one point, so I became a big skin advocate because of that."
She's also clumsy.
Laughing, she explained how clumsiness led to her having skin imperfections.
"I scar easily kasi, so when my skin is dry and I scratch it on something, automatic, I'll have sugat.
"It's become such an important thing to keep it moisturized and hydrated so that when I scratch myself on something, walang sugat.
"I'm also just a very clumsy person to begin with, so I'll just be walking into a room and I'll bump into something.
"So my story is not as inspiring as stretchmarks and athletes' scars, really more, I am a klutz and I hit things.
"And I am sure a lot of girls go through the same things as I did."
There was also a time in her life when she wished she were fairer.
And the pressure for her to have flawless skin became greater when she joined showbiz in early 2000s.
Nikki continued, "For someone under constant scrutiny online, in public, and everyone watching for every little flaw they can point out, it was traumatizing!"
But over time, she "learned to accept that scars are a part of life, flaws are one of the things that make you beautiful.
"As long as you have healthy skin, living a healthy lifestyle, I think that's all that matters."
Loving her skin color was also a matter of changing her outlook.
"I gained confidence and with the pressures to be fair-skinned, I realized it's more important to have healthy skin, no matter what shade it is."
Beauty Secrets. Aside from being happy and stress-free, Nikki said, "I follow very basic principles, keep hydrated be it via water and keeping moisturized."
She also uses "naturally good" products.
Nikki underlined, "With all the technology and chemicals out there, it's nice to go back to basics, to nature."
Lastly, "I guess my favorite beauty secret would be to be nice, because no matter how nice your skin is, if you're not a nice person, wala rin."
