Katarina Rodriguez, Mariel de Leon among the 40 official candidates of Binibining Pilipinas 2017

The Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) has officially released the names of the 40 candidates vying for the crowns at the pageant's 54th edition.

This April, Maxine Medina will be relinquishing her Miss Universe Philippines crown to her successor.

Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa will be crowning the next Binibining Pilipinas–International, too.

Other titles are Binibining Pilipinas–Intercontinental, Binibining Pilipinas–Supranational, Binibining Pilipinas–Grand International, and Binibining Pilipinas–Globe.

One of the candidates is Asia's Next Top Model Season 2 runner-up Katarina Rodriguez.

The 23-year-old model recently graduated from the De La Salle University, and is currently a DJ on MTV Pinoy.

She was once linked to actor Dennis Trillo.

Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong's daughter Mariel de Leon is also joining the competition for the second time.

In 2013, she made it to top 15. `

Filipino-Australian model Chanel Olive Thomas is making a comeback in the pageant scene.

In 2015, Chanel was the runner-up of Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Ong, bagging the Miss Earth Philippines Air title.

She briefly dated Kapamilya actor Jake Cuenca.

Filipino-British model Sirene Sutton is also among the candidates.

She placed first runner-up in the pioneer edition of Miss Global Philippines three years ago.
