People hold different notions about turning 50 years old, the most common of which is, "matanda ka na talaga."
But it's called the “golden years” for a good reason.
While ladies usually hide their age the moment they reach 40, accomplished "golden girls" Tweetie de Leon and Agot Isidro see it as a milestone.
At the media luncheon of Organique Acai Berry last March 17, in EDSA Shangri-La, Tweetie, who have just turned 50, reflected on the decade that she had just closed.
In a short chat with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), the mother of four children mused, “Forty was a really good decade for me.
“At that age, personally speaking, parang I don’t have to prove myself to myself anymore.
“I’m not even gonna say I don’t need to prove anything to anyone else anymore—it’s to myself.
“I’m at peace with what I’ve done, kung kulang man, okay na ako dun. Kung sobra, well and good, thank you.
“So, I was able to love myself better and I guess it translated more outwardly.
“I became more positive, became kinder to myself. I became kinder to other people.”
Agot echoed the same sentiments in a separate interview with PEP.
At the book launch of Sexy At Any Age last March 21, in C3 Events Place, Greenhills, the ABS-CBN actress said that her age is about “being comfortable” with herself.
She related, “I guess the age or the phase where I have to prove myself to myself and everyone else, parang, I’m passed that.
“Ako, I’ve never been anxious of turning older.
“Parang i-ano ko lang, I just let it.
“In-enjoy ko lang everything.
“With work and all that, I just did the best that I could and, you know, at a certain point, you’ll tell yourself you did a good job
“So now, it’s really more about being comfortable with who I am, with the so-called achievements I’ve done in my life, and probably also to enjoy, gusto ko na ma-enjoy and reap the rewards of any achievements I’ve attained.”
Agot’s advice to women who are afraid of getting old, “Relax lang because it’s not so bad.
“Don’t rush it, don’t force it. Just let it, do your best, let it happen as it would happen.”
