2017 is a year of transformations in the entertainment world.
Dramatic, too, with some of its denizens openly talking about their "new look."
Below are this year's transformations that "shook" the Internet.
March 29 was the birth of Jake Zyrus, formerly known as Charice Pempengco.
That was the day he had his breasts removed by cosmetic surgeons Manny and Pie Calayan.
"Masaya ako, pero nahihiya ako. Hindi pa rin kasi ako makapaniwala," he told TV5 reporter MJ Marfori last June 30, in an exclusive interview.
The 25-year-old singer explained, "Siyempre, kung hindi ka pa nagkakaroon ng bigote, minsan nagdro-drawing ka pa sa mukha mo, kasi yun yung pangarap mo.
"Parang every day, pag nagigising ako ngayon...My god! Parang nagpi-freak out ka…kumbaga, parang nagbibinata ka."
In the show Tonight With Boy Abunda last June 28, Jake Zyrus also revealed his plan to undergo a sex reassignment surgery.
He said, "Para sa akin, para complete yung mararamdaman ko as a man, siyempre, I will consider that."
He had started taking testosterone boosters intravenously at that time.
On August 10, netizens had a field day talking about the "new look" of Arci Muñoz.
Did she have a nose job?
In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last June, she made it clear it's nobody's business.
"It's my body," the VIVA talent remarked.
"And whatever's gonna make me feel comfortable and more confident sa aking sarili, I'll do it."
Of her bashers, she said, "Hindi ako nagbabasa. Actually, hindi naman ako mahilig sa social media.
"I’m just really amazed how people have so much time, they have so much time for things like this.
"I just really don’t give... you know it already."
Xander Ford, or Marlou Arizala, also made headlines with his major transformation.
He unveiled his "new look" on October 1, on the Sunday-night magazine show Rated K hosted by Korina Sanchez.
In the interview, Xander expressed his gratitude to his plastic surgeon, Dr. Eric Yapjuangco of The Icon Clinic, for his makeover.
The surgery performed in September gave Xander what he didn't have at birth: a sharper nose, a chiseled jaw line, and smoother and fairer skin.
He told Korina, "Natupad ko na po yung pangarap ko. Masakit, pero kaya.
"Kasi ito talaga yung pangarap ko, ito talaga yung goal ko, yung mabago yung sarili ko."
Xander did not disclose actual figures, but the estimated cost of his transformation was at least PHP465,800.
He said it was worth it. He became popular instantly, becoming the most-searched male personality of 2017, according to Google.
Interviewed by Boy Abunda in his show Tonight With Boy Abunda, former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Miho Nishida was frank about going for beauty enhancement.
It was brave of these celebrities to come out publicly about their cosmetic transformations.
Plastic surgery remains a taboo topic in the entertainment scene as much as it seems to be fandom's favorite guessing game.
It's their life, it's their choice. Amen to that.
