Our skin noticeably changes when we reach the age of 30.

Our metabolism starts to slow down that results in the slowed production of collagen.

Collagen is “responsible for skin strength and elasticity, and its degradation leads to wrinkles that accompany ageing,” according to Wikipedia.

There are skin-care products that aid in the production of collagen, and have been found to slow down the signs of ageing.

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) talked to some celebrities and learned about their skin-care routines and their favorite age-defying products.

At 42, GMA-7 actress Carmina Villaroel is paying more attention to the skin around her eyes, where early signs of ageing begin to show.

But the one skin problem she always has to address are the dark circles.

She explained, “Kasi lagi kami napupuyat ’tapos ako maputi pa, merong dark circle sometimes, yung mga ganun.

"So I really take good care of my eyes kasi may mga wrinkles din diyan on the side.

"Plus, I really go to my derma... I try to go mga twice or thrice a month."

According to her, she uses Meishoku Whitening Eye cream to manage the dark circles under her eyes.

The product can only be bought in Japan.

Carmina is very much into Korean skin care, and her favorite brand is called Sulwhasoo.

She said, ”That's my skin care, yug buong line nila. Meron silang moisturizer, meron silang serum, they have the eye cream.

"Meron din silang parang water, it's not a toner… it’s like water pero not moisturizer, may wash din ako na Sulwhasoo. I love that brand."

They're not yet available in the country but based on its website, the brand's moisturizers, serums and ampoules are priced between $70 and $240.

Ultimately, Carmina advises to "know your skin type and use the products for your skin type."

He also uses Kiehl's Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate.

There are also more affordable anti-ageing products available in the market such as Skin Doctors EyeSmooth, which helps moisturize and tighten skin under eyes without surgery.

The product retails for PHP2,499 at Watsons Philippines.

Skin Doctors Beetox also helps prevent fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, and makes your skin look healthier and visibly younger.

According to its website, the product helps boost collagen formation by up to 300 percent in just seven days.

Price: PHP3,499.

Meanwhile, celebrity entrepreneur Cristalle Belo said the biggest contributor to skin ageing is the sun and recommended sunblock for protection.

She explained, "The sun is the biggest reason kung bakit tayo nag-i-age.

“Nagkaka-discoloration tayo sa skin, melasma, wrinkles, sagging; it's really because of the sun.

“So ang lagi ko talagang sinasabi sa tao is kung gusto niyo ng mura na anti-aging product, just use sunblock every day!

"Protect yourself against the enemy because the sun is the enemy."

Her favorite is, of course, their own, the Belo Sun Expert Tinted Sunscreen that also doubles up as her make-up primer.

This sunscreen retails for PHP449.75.
