Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray is made up almost every day for her activities as a beauty queen.
While she may have a hair and makeup artist in some of these events, there are days when she herself does her own makeup.
It's no problem for the statuesque titleholder, as she has been adept in doing her own face.
In a new video, Catriona does a makeup tutorial on how she does her everyday makeup look.
Cat, as Catriona is often called, starts the tutorial by reminding everyone to hydrate their lips.
She says, "It's nice to have a good, moist base to apply our lipstick on to."
THE EYES
Next, Cat dips her makeup brush on her compact powder to use as an eye shadow base. "This just gives like a plain color, for your eye shadow to stick out," she explains as she dabs some on her eyelids.
Cat also has an eye shadow hack: she uses her bronzer!
"Any good warm, brown [shade] will do," she explains. She then applies the eye shadow above her eye crease, as "a general wash of color."
She adds, "For this step you'll just wanna follow your general eye shape, and you'll learn that just by playing around and seeing what looks good on you.
"So for me, I like to angle up my eye shadows to make it look more cat-like."
Cat also explains why the no-makeup-makeup works for her.
"For everyday, I like that makeup effect where people are like, 'Is she wearing makeup?' Yes I put effort, but it's supposed to look like I didn't."
The beauty queen recommends orange-hued eye shadows for Filipina brown-eyed ladies.
After doing a V-like shape on the corners of her lower eyelid, Catriona continues, "What I like to do and what I think looks really pretty is get any kind of metallic gold or bronze shade that you have... and just use your finger. No need to be all fancy and technical with your brushes.
"Use your finger and then just put it on the center of your lid."
Looking like a pro, Cat then demonstrates the tightlining technique, which is when you use an eyeliner and trace your upper waterline to make your eyelashes appear thicker.
"Trust me, it makes a whole world of difference," she says.
As for applying mascara? Cat's trick is to apply it looking down, while you "wiggle and flick" the mascara wand.
Finally for the eyebrows, Cat uses light, feathery strokes when filling in the sparse areas of her arches.
If you want to highlight the area below your eyebrows, Cat advises to use face powder and not a shimmery eye shadow, which does not look good during daytime.
THE FACE
Cat uses a concealer on the lower part of her eyes, around her nose, and on top of her nose, then a nice big powder brush on her compact powder to set the concealer.
"I like applying it with a brush... it gives a lighter coverage whereas a sponge is if you want a really like, heavier coverage."
Cat prefers a liquid cheek tint because it "looks natural. It sinks into your skin, it looks dewy, it looks like you're blushing like you saw your crush."
Cat also sets her liquid blush with the compact powder. While this step will mattify your skin, Cat says using a highlighter in the next step will make you glow.
She uses a highlighter with a champagne shade, and pat the small, fluffy brush to get rid of excess makeup, which, she applies on the high points of her face: above her cheekbones, her brows, and a little bit on her forehead.
"It's just a really nice hint, so when the sun hits you it's like, 'Ooh! What is she wearing?'"
THE LIPS
Catriona recommends two shades of matte nude lipstick—one is a sweet pink color for when you're going to school, the office, or out with your friends.
The other one is a darker mauve shade, which is a great day-to-night shade. "It brings out the browns in my eyes and my hair, I feel like," she notes. "It's just a deep, beautiful brown nude."
The model-beauty queen has mentioned in a previous interview that she doesn't discriminate when it comes to makeup brands, and she walks the talk in the video as she uses products from local homegrown brand Ever Bilena to nail her look.
