Barbie Forteza recently started her own YouTube channel, where she shares her beauty and skin-care vlogs.
The Kapuso actress has amassed over 228,630 subscribers in just four months after uploading six videos as of press time.
In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Barbie shared what inspired her to put up her own YouTube channel and start vlogging.
She said, "Mahilig kasi ako manood ng mga YouTube videos, usually mga makeup tutorials talaga, mga skin-care routine, more on fashion and beauty talaga."
Barbie usually watches videos from Harper's Bazaar and Vogue's official YouTube channels.
She also subscribed to the channels of American beauty gurus Jeffrey Star and Nikkie Tutorials.
The Kapuso actress is also a big fan of Rihanna and her makeup brand Fenty Beauty.
One makeup tip she learned after watching some of Rihanna's beauty vlogs was to not follow whatever beauty vloggers do to their own faces.
Barbie said, "Kahit na marami ka nang napanood na videos, wag mo susundin yung ginawa nila.
"Siyempre kasi magkakaiba tayo ng shape ng mukha, ng skin tone, ng taste sa look.
"So gawin mo kung ano yung bagay sa iyo, kung ano yung gusto mo talaga.
"Hindi yung susundin mo lang yung napanood mo."
PEP.ph spoke to Barbie last Tuesday, October 23, at the launch of Happy Skin x Posh Nails nail polish at One Rockwell, Makati City.
BARBIE'S YOUTUBE CHANNEL
According to Barbie, starting her own channel was not a walk in the park.
For one, she has limited knowledge when it comes to video editing.
"Ang fear ko, hindi ako magaling mag-edit, e, ayoko naman mag-hire ng team.
"Kasi minsan, bukod sa mahal sila, baka hindi iisa yung gusto namin.
"So nagpaturo na lang ako sa ate ko ng mga basic kasi yung content ko naman is more on makeup and skin care.
"Hindi naman kailangan ng malalang edit yun, e, talagang basic lang din talaga."
Last September 4, she uploaded her third makeup tutorial inspired by American singer Taylor Swift.
Barbie said it was one of the most challenging makeup tutorial she has ever made.
She explained, "Una, feeling ko kapag medyo strong yung look, masyado akong nagmumukhang mature.
"Pangalawa, hindi ko siya [eye makeup] nape-perfect ever kasi magkaiba yung hugis ng mata natin, di ba?
"Either yung isa mas bilog or mas malapad, so hindi siya lagi pantay.
"Hindi ko alam kung anong nangyari sa akin nung araw na yun at nagawa ko siya kaya sobrang fan ako."
Her most-watched YouTube video so far is her "My Boyfriend Does My Make Up Challenge" vlog, which featured her boyfriend Jak Roberto.
The couple's makeup challenge video has garnered over 2,736,396, as of this writing.
SIMPLE OR FULL-ON GLAM?
Barbie enjoys wearing full-on glam makeup looks, and likes to experiment. She gets tips from celebrity makeup artists Fatima Mercado, Rick Martell Calderon, and Effie Go Iñigo.
She told PEP.ph, "Sa mga vlogs ko, mahilig din ako mag-experiment ng mga eye shadows, eye makeup, lipsticks, ganyan."
But the Inday Will Always Love You star said she prefers to wear less foundation for a more natural look.
"Pagdating sa face, less products or light lang. Sa eye makeup ako nagfo-focus. Gusto ko full glam or glitters, ganun.
"Pero sa face, ayoko ng masyadong nilalagay."
Barbie added that she's not a fan of well-defined eyebrows.
"Sa kilay ko, ayaw ko ng masyadong plakado, ayoko ng masyadong defined, ayoko ng drawing.
"Kasi uso ngayon, kahit sa mga Hollywood stars—sina Emma Watson, sina Chloe Moretz—parang di sila masyado nag-e-effort sa brows.
"Parang binu-brush lang nila, and more on eyes lang sila."
