Leila Alcasid shares her mom Michelle van Eimeren's most important skin-care advice: "...never sleep with your makeup on no matter how tired you are."

Having a good base is a must when it comes to achieving that barely-there makeup look.

This is enough reason for singer Leila Alcasid to be meticulous about her skin care.

In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), the 21-year-old daughter of Ogie Alcasid and former beauty queen Michelle van Eimeren details her six-step regimen.

"I'm very big on skin care," she tells PEP. "I've been switching it a little lately 'cause... like if I'm traveling, and then there's like a change in air quality, my skin freaks out.

"So, I just came back from Australia, and my skin is just [changing]... so I'm very big on that."

It only takes Leila 10 to 15 minutes to finish her skin-care routine.

"Usually, I'll cleanse twice... For me, it just makes me feel a lot more clean for my skin.

"I have oily skin so double cleansing just makes sure to get out all the impurities and my skin is really super clean by the time I'm done."

She adds, "And then I'll scrub and then I'll do toning and then serum, and moisturizer."

The young songstress is a lot more particular with the products she puts on her face for her nighttime regimen.

"I'm a lot more involved. Sometimes, I'll do a sheet mask or something like that.

"If ever I'm doing the mask, and then I will really take time with toning and stuff.

"Sometimes, I have to go for oil-free products when my skin feels oily."

MOM'S ADVICE

Leila usually seeks tips from her mom, Michelle.

When asked about the most important beauty advice she received from her mom, Leila answers, "My mom was the first one to tell me to never sleep with your makeup on no matter how tired you are, or if you've been drinking, or whatever."

She continues, "Always wash your face or, like say, if you have something in the day and then you go home early, just take your makeup off just straight away 'cause it's so bad to have it on for so long 'cause it clogs your pores.

"It's probably one thing that I've stuck by. I never go to sleep without washing my face."

Not every tip, however, worked on Leila.

She recalls, "My mom told me to put toothpaste on like my blemishes and stuff.

"I tried doing it before when I was younger and it didn't do anything for me.

"So I found like other products and stuff that help with pimples but, yeah, toothpaste never really worked for me."

MAGIC OF SERUMS

Leila admitted that she only discovered the wonders of serums recently.

One product she swears by is Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate which gives her skin its radiant glow.

She tells PEP.ph, "It's really good! I usually would never use serums before 'cause I didn't know much about it, I guess.

"So when I started using it, and then I don't know, you wake up and your skin is much smoother and it's rejuvenating!"

This serum is currently available for PHP2,895 in SM Megamall.

For treating pimples and that 'glass skin' effect, Leila uses CosRx products.

"I love CosRx especially their pimple patches, but I tried their serums as well, the one with snail extracts.

"It's so good! I really like it 'cause it makes your skin... I mean I'm still young, obviously, but it makes your skin a lot more youthful."

The brand's Acne Pimple Master Patch comes with a price tag of PHP200.

Meanwhile, the Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is priced at PHP970.

Both products are available at Beauty Bar in Glorietta 2, Makati City.
