ABS-CBN and GMA-7 stars joined over 70,000 participants at the Metro Manila Pride March 2019 despite the rain in Marikina City on Saturday, June 29.
This year's theme is #ResistTogether, which urges Filipino members and supporters of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) community to support gender equality.
The event also commemorates the history of the Pride March, particularly the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City.
Celebrities who supported the LGBTQ+ community included Nadine Lustre, Iza Calzado, Janine Gutierrez, Angelina Mead King, Mari Jasmine, film director Samantha Lee, and celebrity photographer BJ Pascual.
Angelina shared their group photo on her Instagram and wrote, "Wow what an amazing turn out! This is half the group only that came with us! Thank you to @missizacalzado for the photo! Full support!!!"
In an Instagram post, Iza showed her love and support for the LGBTQ+ community.
She wrote, "Growing up, I was surrounded by LGBTQ people mostly because my father was in Showbiz and we used to send entertainers to Japan, most of whom were fabulously gay!
"To this day I recognize that my life will not be as beautiful and colorful if not for the energy of my LGBTQ+ family and friends.
"I wish to see the day that you will get the same rights and privileges that I enjoy.
"To the community that has literally given me life, Mabuhay kayo At maraming salamat! Kaisa ninyo ako! ILYSM!!!"
GMA-7 actor Addy Raj is also glad that a lot of heterosexual allies of the LGBTQ+ community showed their support by attending the event.
Addy wrote on Instagram, "Being an Ally of the LGBTQ+ community and meeting so many straight girls today at the #MarikinaSportsCenter makes me so proud and happy! Why?
"Because finally straight people are standing up for their LGBTQ+ friends to #ResistTogether.
"Although pride still continues to be a #mahabahabangusapan as I feel more straight guys need to attend such events to make a difference in the community as a whole.
"No one is going to think you are gay, I promise you! If you appreciate them, they will appreciate you back!
"Besides it was so much fun with some amazing performances!
"I really want to sing a duet song with one of the queen/transgender performers. They really sound like a girl!
"I hope I get to do it next time! Happy pride everyone!"
Kapuso actress Klea Pineda also updated her Instagram with a photo taken from the event.
Newbie actress Michelle Dee, daughter of Melanie Marquez, also show her support for the community.
