The past weekend was a festive family event for Mariel Rodriguez and Robin Padilla.
Mariel, who is pregnant with her second daughter, turned 35 years old on August 10, and held a grand celebration on August 9.
But the party wasn't solely for herself. It doubled as an advance birthday surprise for Robin, who is turning 50 on November 23.
Mariel wrote in her recent Instagram post, "I am 35 years old today!!! [three double heart emoji] and last night we had our biggest party ever!!! But it wasn't for me... it was for my husband [heart emoji]
"He turns 50 this November and sadly Isabella and I will not be here to celebrate with him. So i threw him a surprise party... the whole time he thought it was my party i was planning but it was his. From the bottom of my heart, my sincerest gratitude to everyone who helped me out!!!"
Mariel planned a Filipino-themed celebration for Robin. Family, friends, and guests were all dressed in their Filipino outfits.
"You guys made it so special for Robin. THANK YOU!!!" Mariel wrote in another Instagram post.
Many of Robin's closest friends were part of the celebration, but Mariel gave special thanks to President Rodrigo Duterte, who was in attendance.
The It's Showtime host wrote, "The biggest surprise of the night... President Rodrigo Roa Duterte!!!!! Thank you sooooooo much!!!! Your presence made Robin's 50th most special."
Mariel's advance birthday surprise for Robin's 50th was held at Hotel Raffles Makati.
