Candidates who are BFFs at the Miss Universe 2016 pageant

Many of the girls say the the exciting part of being in Miss Universe is the friendships you make along the way.


The end of Miss Universe 2016 leaves a bittersweet note for the 86 beauty queens who spent almost a month here in the Philippines.

After all, the pageant didn't just give the ladies a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but one-of-a-kind friendships, too.

The candidates found themselves "queen sisters" and allies throughout the entire three weeks. 

Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere and Miss Israel Yam Kaspers Anshel

Yam Kaspers Anshel (left in video) was proud to see her roommate crowned the new Miss Universe.

Before her coronation, Iris Mittenaere celebrated her birthday in Manila!

The two ladies did a "happy dance."

Yam's message to Iris: "I had the best experience ever and I got to meet closely and sleep two weeks with the new miss universe !! My roomie!! Proud and love you!!"

Miss Venezuela Mariam Habach and Miss Philippines Maxine Medina

Since they were part of the same ancillary events, Marian Habach (left) and Maxine Medina (right) clicked.

Their friendship was tagged by pageant fans as "#MariMax."

People suddenly had a hard time telling Miss Singapore Cheryl Chou and Miss China Li Zhenyeng apart because they were always hanging out together!

Miss USA Deshauna Barber and Miss Curacao Chanelle de Lau

Deshuana Barber (right) dedicated an Instagram post to her roomie: "Chanelle, thank you for spending the past three weeks making me smile, laugh, and lose lots of sleep due to our late night convos."

Miss Australia Caris Tiivel and Miss Aruba Charlene Leslie

Charlene Leslie (right) is already planning an "Australian surf trip" to meet up with Caris Tiivel (left) soon!

Camilla Barraza (left) and Noelie Freire (right) were roommates.

When "off-duty," they do wacky things: (L-R) Miss Philippines Maxine Medina, Miss Malaysia Kiran Jassal, Miss Curacao Chanelle de Lau, and Miss USA Deshauna Barber.

They named themselves the Miss Universe version of "Spice Girls."

“Miss Universe 2016 Team Forever”

Miss Germany Johanna Acs (right in all photos) loved everything about Miss Universe, but the "best part" for her was meeting "all these inspiring incredible women and to build friendships for a life time!"
