If the other countries are obsessed about football, Philippines is a nation of pageant fans.
This year, it was hailed by Missosology, a pageant-related community forum, as Performer of the Year for making it to top six in the Big 5 pageants—Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Earth, Miss Supranational, and Miss Intercontinental.
It also began making its presence felt in Miss Grand International, Miss Globe, and Miss United Continents.
Here's our accomplishment report for the year 2016.
Kylie Verzosa bagged the country's 6th Miss International crown last October 2016, in Tokyo, Japan.
The 24-year-old Pinay model impressed the judges of the pageant with her answer during the Q & A portion.
"If I become Miss International 2016, I will devote myself to cultural understanding and international understanding because I believe that it is in developing in each of us sensitivity to other cultures that we expand our horizons, tolerate difference, and appreciate diversity," Kylie said.
Maxine Medina also made the country proud after landing in the top six of the Miss Universe pageant held last January 30, 2017, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Catriona Gray was among the early favorites at the Miss World 2016 pageant in Maryland, U.S.A. last December.
She had a third runner-up finish.
At the final Q&A of the pageant, she was asked about the qualities of a Miss World winner.
She answered, "I think first of all, it takes bravery. To be a Miss World is to carry a burning torch.
"It is like action carried out by one to illuminate the lives of many.
"And I would dedicate my whole self, my love for the arts, and my voice to trying to uplift, empower, and educate people.
"And it would be my greatest honor and duty to hold this torch high enough so that all the world could feel and see its light."
Jeslyn Santos took home Philippines' first Miss United Continents crown last September 2016 in Ecuador.
The 23-year-old Bulakena was also the first Asian to win in the Latina-dominated beauty pageant.
Nicole Cordoves bagged first runner up at the Miss Grand International 2016 pageant held last October in Las Vegas, U.S.A.
Her answer to the final question drew mixed reactions.
When asked who between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton will she choose in the fight against war and violence, she answered the former.
Here's Nicole's full answer: "Okay, you have to promise me that you would not react after my first sentence.
"I would choose Donald Trump to stop the war and violence with me because if we choose him to switch to our side, there won't be war and violence anymore.
"So, I will also make sure that he will read my speeches to stop the war and violence because imagine someone who would bring so much madness and so much emotion from these people.
"What if we use his voice to actually do good for the world? What if we use that to our advantage?
"That's why let's keep the peace and let Donald Trump switch to our side to stop the war and violence."
