Candy Pangilinan was a proud mom yesterday, March 30, at the Moving Up Day of her 14-year-old son.
Now in Grade 5 going Grade 6, Quentin was diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) plus a "high-sensory integration problem."
His condition, according to National Institution of Mnetal Health, is "a brain disorder marked by an ongoing pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development."
So when Candy attended the recognition ceremony, where Quentin received four awards, the comedienne was ecstatic.
On Instagram, she wrote, "Ipagmamayabang ko na nakatanggap ang anak ko ng MOST CHEERFUL AWARD. Kahit mababa ang grades niya, at least masayahin. O Loko!"
Aside from Cheerful Award, Q (Quentin's nickname) also received People Person and Performing Arts awards.
Candy's only regret was, "Wala kaming picture ni Quentin sa stage habang tinatanggap ang award dahil tumakbo na siya at walang na-capture at all. Hahaha!"
But it was a moment she will always cherish.
In a quick chat via Facebook Messenger, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Candy some parenting tips for moms who have a child with similar condition.
She gave this short "must-do" list":
1) Always encourage your child.
2) Focus on his strengths.
3) Use positive words when talking to your child.
4) Point out good qualities even under bad circumstances.
