"It was good, it was so much fun. Sobrang saya!"
This was how ABS-CBN actress Ria Atayde described her party at The Seawall Garden of Sofitel Philippine Plaza last Sunday, April 2.
The My Dear Heart actress recently celebrated her 25th birthday with a Cuban-themed party.
The birthday girl looked gorgeous in her off-shoulder dress by designer Jo Rubio.
Makeup artist Mike Bawa did her minimal beauty look, while Charlie Manapat gave her hair the flawless beach waves.
Ria's mother Sylvia Sanchez and brother Arjo Atayde were also present at the party.
Her star-studded guest list included Joshua Garcia, Julia Barretto, Bela Padilla, Yassi Pressman, Marvin Agustin, Sam Concepcion, Kiana Valenciano, Enchong Dee, Joseph Marco, Zanjoe Marudo, Joey Marquez, Smokey Manoloto, Billy Crawford, and Coleen Garcia, among others.
UNEXPECTED GUEST. But her party made headlines because of her "unexpected guest," Coldplay's lead vocalist Chris Martin.
Karen Kabuhat, the party's host, spotted Chris standing near the party venue.
But Ria clarified his presence was mere coincidence, and felt that the news about his "attendance" got too sensationalized.
In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) early today, April 5, via phone call, Ria related the chance encounter.
"Honestly, andun lang naman sila corner, 'tapos no big deal. Nyoy [Volante] was singing with the band, nagdya-jam kasi rockeoke, and then I think, biglang they [Coldplay] heard him.
"'Tapos sabi ng cousin ko, sabi daw nila sa producer nila, 'It looks fun!'
"Gusto daw nila mag-crash. Nandun sila sa gilid lang, nanonood lang ng party, pinapakinggan si Nyoy. Nagalingan daw.
"Parang it's ano naman...you know, parang nasa gilid lang sila, and people barely noticed them pa."
Nonetheless, the 25-year-old actress was starstruck upon seeing the "Yellow" singer.
"Nasa gilid lang sila, and then kami, nasa elevated area. Okay naman, I was so kilig na parang, 'Oh my god!'
"Pero nothing too... yes, they were there. They were there to watch pero parang napadaan lang."
But of course, even if they did not really attend her party, what happened was a most pleasant surprise to Ria, a big fan of Coldplay.
"Seeing them in person is nakaka-starstruck na," she remarked.
She got starstruck that she didn't get the chance to talk or even take a photo with the Grammy award-winning musician.
"I didn't kasi pagkababa ko dun sa area as in parang, 'Oh this is the celebrant.' 'Tapos nag-hi, ganun lang."
Ria said Chris was willing to perform a song at her birthday, but didn't push through with the plan due to security reasons.
COLDPLAY'S CONCERT. On Tuesday, April 4, Ria made sure to catch the band's first live concert, A Head Full of Dreams, in the country.
She came to SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds in Pasay City with close friends Rayver and Rodjun Cruz, Ara Mina, and Dianne Medina.
Ria exclaimed, "So good! The best concert ever! Parang until now, hindi ako makapaniwala. It's such a nice concert, ang ganda. Super ganda!"
Ria said she's been a fan of the band since she was a kid, and listens to their music before doing a heavy drama scene.
"Kunyare sa taping kailangan ko maiyak, yun yung mga pinapakinggan ko, mga Coldplay at saka mga The Script.
"Yun yung pinapakinggan ko kapag kailangan kong maiyak."
The best part of the concert for her was, of course, when the band played her favorite song.
"I think hearing 'Fix You' was the ultimate kasi when I was a kid, yun yung go-to song ko 'pag malungkot ako. So hearing it live was so consoling and so nice.
"And I guess, when everybody was singing along together, one chorus, nice maganda."
