Coleen Garcia finally revealed the month of her wedding to Billy Crawford this year, but she remains tight-lipped on the exact wedding date.
“Sa April, yun na lang, first time kong sasabihin ang month,” she said.
The couple will have a beach wedding this summer.
“Beach talaga, although may naka-standby rin na chapel just in case na umulan.
“But we’re hoping na good weather rin on that day. It’s a destination wedding.”
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) chatted with Coleen at the presscon for her latest film, Sin Island. It was held at the 9501 Restaurant in the ABS-CBN Compound in Quezon City, on February 12.
With the wedding only two months away, Coleen said they are still ironing out some details.
She said, “Ngayon, parang pinaplantsa na lang namin lahat.
“Malapit na rin kaming mag-send ng invitation. Actually, sobrang late na nga namin.
“Usually, six months before, pero sa sobrang wala kaming oras."
Her maid of honor is Ria Atayde.
“I’m very grateful for her talaga.”
Among Coleen and Billy's principal sponsors for the wedding are Dr. Vicki Belo and Dr. Steve Mark Gan.
But Coleen added that their list of ninongs and ninangs are still incomplete.
“Yung iba kasi, hindi pa namin natatanong kaya hindi pa namin makumpleto. Very late talaga kami,” she confessed.
For their entourage, Coleen said they chose the people that have been close to them both.
“Pinili talaga namin yung mga taong [who] have been there for us,” she said.
“Mga friends and some outside the industry. Sa entourage ni Billy, si Vhong Navarro.”
Vhong is Billy and formerly Coleen's co-host in the noontime variety show It's Showtime.
Coleen is happy that her fiancé is supportive of her career.
And even if she's been on the daring path when it comes to her roles like in Sin Island, Coleen hopes Billy will like it.
“Yes, I hope he’s proud after.
“Kasi, parang kapag may bago akong performance, bagong movie, ako ang kinakabahan.
“I really am my biggest critic.
“Ngayon, sabi ko kay Billy, 'If there’s anything that I do wrong, sabihin mo sa akin agad.'
“Pero alam niya kasi kung gaano ko ka-kabado, he will never add on to that.
“But he’s always honest with me. Kung may mali, may kulang, sasabihin niya sa akin.”
Coleen said she doesn't feel awkward when Billy has to watch her intimate scenes with another actor.
“No naman, especially in this film.
“Kasi in this scene, it’s really tastefully shot.
“Actually, sobrang hanga talaga ko kay Mycko [David, the cinematographer], ang galing niya.
“I hope you’ll see it when you watch it, napaka-tasteful talaga ng pagkakagawa.”
As of now, Coleen cannot say whether her daring image will take a backseat once she becomes Mrs. Billy Crawford.
She narrated, “Wala... wala naman.
“I don’t know if that time will come.
“If ever it will come, siguro kung may mga anak na kami.
“Kasi parang ang sagwa naman kung mga 40s na 'ko 'tapos ganito pa rin, di ba?
“Kaya nilulubos ko ngayon kasi I know, I won’t be able to do it forever.
“May hangganan din naman.
“Pero I hope rin naman na makatanggap ako ng other project na not sexy also para di ba, may iba lang.
“Kasi, most of the films I’ve done talaga nasa tema na yun.”
Doing Sin Island has taught Coleen a thing or two about marriage. The film is about a husband and wife who both committed sins.
“Actually, very timely siya for me which I really thank Inang [Olivia Lamasan] kasi, I learned so much on this project. At the same time, it’s kind of aligned with where my personal plan is going."
Director Olivia Lamasan is the new head of Star Cinema, which produced the movie.
Coleen added, “Ang dami kong natutunan. I learned na if you really want to be with someone, kailangang ipaglaban mo talaga.
“And na-realize ko rin na kaya ang dami palang infidelity movie rito sa Pilipinas kasi tayo lang yung—one of the few countries na walang divorce.
“So minsan, wala tayong choice.
“Mahal talagang magpa-annul, matagal.
“So, we mostly have no choice but to fight for our love.
“Pero dapat talaga nanggagaling talaga sa gusto, sa gusto mong ipaglaban ang relationship niyo.”
Coleen and Billy wish to wait before they have a baby, but she won't have a problem either if she gets pregnant immediately after the wedding.
She said, “Sa akin, kung binigay ng Diyos, tatanggapin namin.
“Mas okey na yung maaga kesa wala.
“I’ll always be thankful at kasama naman yun sa mga pangarap namin sa buhay together.
“Pero if it’s up to us, siguro gusto namin yung a couple of years muna just to really get to know each other as husband and wife.
“Kasi, iba yung mag-boyfriend-girlfriend kayo.
“Iba rin yung mag-asawa kayo.”
With their busy schedules, Coleen admitted they also don't have solid honeymoon plans yet.
“Hindi pa 'ko sure,” Coleen laughed.
“Sana sa July kaya lang, depende rin talaga sa mga projects namin.
“Kasi sa ngayon, may PGT [Pilipinas Got Talent] siya.
“Actually, this is the first time sa buong career ko since I joined Showtime na wala akong overlapping project.
“Wala akong kasunod pa.
“Kasi, kakausapin pa lang ako and I don’t know pa what’s the next plan for me.
“Right now, I’m just really focused on the wedding preparation pa.”
But where does she want to honeymoon?
“Ang dami, e, gusto ko kasi—noong una, akala ko beach noong mag-Maldives kami, kasi relaxing.
“But then I realized, gusto ko ng drive.
“Gusto kong mag-drive kami. Siguro sa States or sa Europe. I want to see different sights.”
