The Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival in modern China, is celebrated by Chinese communities all over the world with various rituals, particularly the ancient art of feng shui, which can help attract luck and prosperity for the coming year.

This 2019, the first day of the Chinese New Year also known as the "Year of the Earth Pig" is going to be celebrated on Tuesday, February 5.

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the press sought the help of Feng Shui expert Hanz Cua on how to be successful and avoid failure in 2019.

Master Hanz launched his latest book The Year of the Pig on Saturday, January 19, in Trinoma, Quezon City.

1. Declutter your house, so that new wealth, money, and good fortune will enter.

It's time to put every thing you learned from tidying expert Marie Kondo to test before the Chinese New Year.

Master Hanz said, "Itapon na po ang dapat itapon. Mag-move on na kay ex. Kailangan po sunugin ang mga gamit ng ex. Kalimutan na po ang mga alitan so dapat move on na po ang dapat gawin."

2. Wear something red.

Master Hanz said red has always been a lucky color, and wearing something in this color is one simple way to attract luck.

He added, "2019 is a balanced chart compared to 2018. 2018, actually, Earth Dog maganda po pagdating sa economy, sa wealth, and money.

"So sa 2019, mas maganda pa po ang papasok na pera, kasaganahan, at prosperity. Balanced po ang five element.

"Ibig sabihin niyan maraming taong magtutulungan."

3. Prepare 12 kinds of different fruits, tikoy, and lechon.

On the eve of the Chinese New Year, arrange 12 kinds of fruits on your table.

Master Hanz noted that you don't necessarily need round-shaped fruits on your table.

Pineapples, for instance, augur well. Called "Ong Lai" in Hokkien, "ong" translates to prosperity and "lai" means come in English.

Master Hanz also advised to have bananas, which signify strong family bond, and lemons, which counter negative vibes.

He also suggested to have watermelons, melons, mangoes, oranges, lanzones, and apples on the list.

Tikoy (a popular Chinese rice cake) and sweets also signify strong family bond. It is also good to have lechon and fish on your table as they symbolize wealth.

For couples who wish to have a baby this year, you must have some peanuts if you want a baby girl and any seed such as pakwan seeds or sunflower seeds if you want a baby boy.

4. Don't turn off the lights from February 4 to February 5.

Master Hanz explained, "Dapat bright, maliwanag po ang bahay upang makapasok po ang good luck o good fortune sa bahay."

5. Tossing of coins.

Coin tossing is widely believed to attract wealth for the whole year, but you must toss the coin from your door towards the center of your house.

This gesture signifies that money will continuously come into your home.

6. Place a Prosperity Pig in your home.

This is said to bring good fortune to households as pigs signify prosperity, wealth, and reasonable success.

7. The Year of the Earth Pig is also a lucky year for those born in the years of Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dog, Pig, Sheep, and Rooster to have a baby.

Master Hanz explained, "Sa 2019, maganda pong gumawa ng baby ang mga married couples po.

"Nagsi-signify po ito ng kasaganahan sa bahay, prosperity po, o magandang buhay ng lahat ng family members."
