Maey Bautista confessed that she didn't expect Martin Inumerable, her boyfriend of eight years, to propose to her last Valentine's Day.
She recalls that shocking moment when Martin suddenly burst into tears, got down on one knee, took out a ring, and blurted out, “Will you marry me?”
“Siyempre, yes ang sinagot ko.
“Kami kasi ni Martin, walong taon na kaming magkakilala.
“We started out as friends at nakilala ko siya noong time na contestant ako ng Survivor Philippines.
"Kaya siguro nga, ito na ang right time para sa aming dalawa," Maey narrated to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the media conference for the GMA Afternoon teleserye Hiram na Anak held at the GMA Network Center last February 18.
PROPOSAL VIDEO
Maey wasn't aware that someone uploaded the video of Martin's proposal on Facebook.
“Actually, nagulat talaga ako na biglang may lumabas na video ng proposal niya.
“Supposedly, kami-kaming magkakaibigan lang ang nandoon.
“Pero siguro may isa sa kanila na sa sobrang tuwa sa mga nagaganap sa amin kaya pinost ang video.
“Natuwa naman kami ni Martin sa mga comments na nakuha ng video.
“Most of the comments ay masaya sila sa aming dalawa,” she recalled.
STILL BUSY WITH RESPECTIVE CAREERS
Despite the kilig-worthy moment, Maey disclosed that they haven't actually started mapping out their wedding plans since they are still busy with their respective jobs.
But she added that things will start moving pretty soon when they feel that it's the right time.
Maey explained, “Si Martin kasi, nagwu-work siya sa isang cruise liner, so mas madalas na wala siya rito.
“Nagkikita kami after ng ilang buwan kapag nandito siya.
“Ako naman, busy ako with three shows: Day-Off, Good News at itong teleserye na Hiram na Anak.
“Siyempre, career muna kami. Mag-ipon muna para sa future.
“Kami naman ni Martin, may kasunduan naman kami na irerespeto namin ang gusto ng bawat isa.
“Gusto rin naming mag-grow kami sa careers namin.
“Kaya yung wedding, hindi pa siya magaganap muna,” said Maey.
NATURE-THEMED CHRISTIAN WEDDING
The two hope their wedding will be an outdoor affair.
“Pareho kaming Christian ni Martin at pareho rin kaming nature lover.
“Naiisip ko minsan na magandang wedding ay sa isang malaking garden or sa may bundok kami since sanay kami sa mga adventure trips.
“Bahala na kung ano ang maging concept, basta may kinalaman sa nature,” she said.
WEDDING ENTOURAGE
So far, they haven't planned their wedding entourage yet, but one thing's for sure: Maey's best friend, Kapuso comedian Betong Sumaya will be one of their ninongs.
According to Maey, Betong was ecstatic when he found out about her engagement to Martin.
“Sinabi ko nga kay Betong na isa siya sa magiging ninong namin ni Martin.
“Wala siyang choice kundi um-oo sa akin!” she blurted out once more with a hearty laugh.
